Ellen and Josh’s South Australian vineyard wedding was a total class act. These vows were steeped in nostalgic old-school romance, soundtracked by classics such as My Girl and Fly Me To The Moon (both covered by the impeccable Baker Boys Band on the day).

Mitolo Wines was exactly the style of venue I wanted,” shares the bride, who wore a Sassi Holford gown paired with stunning Dove Grey Bridal earrings. “The backdrop of the vineyards, hills, and ocean in the distance that I’d grown up with as ‘home.’”

Photographer Evan Bailey “did the most amazing job,” the newlyweds rave, and we would have to agree! Open your Pinterest board (maybe a vino too?), and zap yourself back to Ellen and Josh’s ‘I do’s…

THE VIBE “I really wanted the style to be classic, old-Hollywood style. I always envisaged Sinatra, a brass band, whites, blacks, bow ties, glamour, twinkly lights, and bushy white and green florals. This kind of style has always made me smile, and my mum and I have always listened to old music together – Sinatra and Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Etta James and Louis Armstrong. This kind of music and classic vibe really inspired the day.

FAVE DETAILS “We worked closely with our florist (Studio Botanic) on what was in season and what styles we loved – keeping it minimal while making sure we filled the space. They did the most incredible job. Our invites – my beautiful bestie Emma Kate (Emma Kate Co) created our custom invitations, which included a map of the area on them – our home, the beach, the vines and the venue. I loved this detail, and it really felt unique to us.[Lastly], our bridal ‘get-ready’ venue. You spend so much of your wedding day there that it’s really nice to choose a place that means something to you. Even if that’s your family home (Josh got ready at my family home, which he loves), I think that really made my day – and Josh’s too – to be in places we loved so much. Reef House is a stunning BnB between Aldinga Beach and Port Willunga Beach, where I’ve spent thousands of hours growing up. It was perfect.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “I have always dreamt of getting photos at Port Willunga beach, where we got ready and just 10 minutes from our venue. Our photographer (Evan Bailey) was an absolute champ and drove us there in our old, beaten-up manual Defender, through stormy weather, road closures, and roadworks, only to find it pouring by the time we got there. He was such a delight in the car and kept our spirits up. We had a good half-hour round trip sharing stories of marriage, togetherness, his wife and family, and reflecting on how this is a mere moment and a mere photo. We had the best time. We did manage a few epic photos too, thanks to Evan’s magic photographic touch.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Sounds cliché, but really try to enjoy it – and outsource as much help (even to family and friends) that you can. Especially things you know are not your forte. Josh and I often set aside time specifically for wedding organising, and this was great because it really made us focus when we needed to. We also had our own lists of things we were responsible for, which really helped us be accountable.”
