Merry Christmas, guys! What better way to kick off our end of year round ups than with CAKE! Because, really, who doesn’t love dessert!  We’ve crunched the numbers and according to your clicks, likes and comments throughout the year (across our blog, Instagram and Pinterest pages) these are the top 10 cakes most loved by you, our dear readers.

Last years cakes were dominated by naked cakes and traditional three tiered beaties where as this year we’ve seen a more diverse mix covering everything from single tiered cakes to lamington cakes and even a gold coated cake that takes the word comprimise to a whole new level! We we’re pleased to see so many of our fave bakers make the list too, shout out to Melbourne folk Mad About Cakes, Miss Lady Bird Cakes and Torte By Mirjana along with Sydney legend Stacy Brewer Cakes and Brisbane baker Petal & Peach – all of which outdid themselves with the things they can whip up with a little flour, water and sugar (and a whole heap of imagination)

So without further adieu ladies and gents, pull up your Pinterest board and get note taking, because right here, in no particular order, are our top ten wedding cakes of 2019…

ELLE & AARON, MELBOURNE, VIC
The amazing Miss Lady Bird Cakes has done it again, this time reimaging the humble lamington into 12 glorious layers of chocolate, coconut and cream – topped off with all of our favourite berries. Bride Elle sited the cake as one of her favourite details from the day, telling us “I was obsessed with our reception setup – the cake on the bar cart, the florals on the floor in gold frames surrounding it and the neon pink sign. My jaw actually dropped when I saw it all come together”. This gorgeous wedding was photographed by Daniel Milligan. If you’re looking for an amazing Melbourne photographer click here for a list of our favourites.

ANNALIESE & DEAN, EWINGSDALE, NSW
This intimate elopement took place in the Byron Bay hinterland and just blew us away with its simplicity, yet fine attention to detail. A single table (that was our styling dreams come to life) with no more than a dozen guests watching on as Annaliese and Dean celebrated saying ‘I Do’ was everything you could want from a wedding day. The cutey-patooty cake from Heidi Flora only added to the fun and joy of the day with photos by Cassandra Ladru.  Getting married in Byron Bay or its surrounds? CLAIRE & LEE, ADELAIDE, SA
The good folk of The Bake Box outdid themselves with this semi naked cake covered in more than a hearty helping of caramel drizzle. Decorated with dried natives like gum nuts and wheat, this delicious creation took Claire and Lee’s Australiana theme to a whole other level. You guys clearly liked it too as it was one of our most liked photos on Instagram, with photos by Mike Hemus. If you’re getting married in South Australia then be sure to click here for a list of our fave local photographers, vendors and venues.

ROBYN & NICK, BYRON BAY, NSW
This gorgeous wedding/birthday cake by cult Brisbane baker Petal & Peach Bespoke Cakery wins the year for us! Described by the bride Robyn as “the most deliscious carrot cake with lemon curd frosting” she goes on to tell us “It was my flower girls birthday so we had a Happy Birthday cake topper, sung happy birthday and she cut the cake with us”. Is that not the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard! This in demand Queensland baker services weddings from Byron Bay to Brisbane and everywhere inbetween and you can check out more of her gorgeous creations here. Photographed by Zoe Morley Photography, you can check out more of this wedding here and more of Zoe’s amazing work here and here.

LU & BILLY, MELBOURNE, VIC
Melbourne baker Torte By Mirjana is known for her unique, wild and oh-so-fun creations and she didn’t miss a beat with this single tiered cake for Lu and Billy’s Melbourne elopement. Her cakes are actual works of art (seriously guys, click here and prepare to have your mind blown) so it’s no surprise to us she made the best of 2019 round up. Big thanks to talented Melbourne lens lady Miranda Stokkel for sharing this super fun day with us, if you want to check out more of her beautiful photos, simply click here.

KYLIE & BRENT, SYDNEY, NSW
This sleek urban venue called for an equally sleek cake and Sydney fave Stacy Brewer Cakes (who forever holds a special place in our hearts for that time she bought an espresso cake to the Hello May office) certrainly delivered. What we love most about this cake is, whilst it looks simple, there is a whole heap going on on the inside. Because when you can’t agree on which flavour cake you want to have, what does Stacy do? She whips you up a cake with a different flavour per layer, OF COURSE! We’re talking coconut cake, vanilla buttercream, lemon curd and fresh berries on the bottom tier with a moist chocolate cake, salted caramel buttercream and peanut praline rounding out the top tier – which equals one happy bride AND one happy groom, afterall, marriage is all about comprimise, right! This wedding was photographed by Gui Jorge Photography. You can check out more of his beautifully candid wedding work here.

TRACEY & DAN, SYDNEY, NSW
Everything about this day from the gold dress to the industrial venue was unique, so of course the cake, concocted by Andy Bowdy Pastry, was too. Part Willy Wonka and part Jackson Pollock, this semi naked cake was topped of with delicious dollops of meringue. Photographed by Sydney photographers Willow & Co, you can check out a full list of our all time favourite Sydney wedding photographers right here.

ELLE & JEY, MELBOURNE, VIC
This inner city wedding had so many cute and personal touches and was a huge hit with our readers, from the red wedding dress to the gold spray painted dinosaur cake toppers on this scrumptious looking lemon curd and caramelised peach cake by one of our fave melbourne bakers Mad About Cakes. If you’re planning a Victorian wedding and after some delicious baked goods your guests will be talking about long after last drinks are called, then be sure to check out more from Mad About Cakes here. This wedding was photographd by Motta Weddings, you can check out more of his stunning wedded work here.

CAMILLA & JAMES, SYDNEY, NSW
We’re not sure what we love most about this Palm Beach wedding, the beautifully candid photos by one of our fave Sydney lensmen Josh Jay or the simplicity of this single tiered cake by Black Star Pastry. Of course it’s the photos, but by gosh this cake is a close second. Josh has such a beautifully relaxed approach to shooting weddings, be sure to check out more of his wedded work here and prepare to fall in love with his moody black and whites and joy filled images.

LAURA & TRAVIS, COFFS HARBOUR, NSW
Bride Laura (who also happens to be on of our fave invitation designers – check out Laura Elizabeth Designs if you know what’s good for you) pulled out all the stop for her epic day of days. She hired one of our fave Queensland lens ladies (the always indemand on account of her being amazing at what she does, Stories By Ash) and blew her guests away with this scrumptious cake by Baked By K.
