There’s only so much you can learn about a wedding venue from a brochure, website or Instagram feed. To truly understand what makes a place special, you need to experience it firsthand, so when an opportunity came along to swap the laptop for a cocktail overlooking the Whitsundays, you better believe we jumped.

Hosted at Yangaro, an exclusive-use wedding venue perched above Funnel Bay in the Whitsunday Islands, the multi-day trip brought together wedding industry professionals to step into the shoes of wedding guests and experience what a destination wedding celebration in this incredible corner of Queensland could really look and feel like.

From arrival through to (never want to leave this place) goodbye, every detail was designed to showcase not only the venue itself but the broader Whitsundays wedding destination and the local suppliers who help bring it all to life.

From ocean-view accommodation and wellness experiences to sunset cruises and long-table dinners, every element – organised expertly by Kristy of Mills + Franks – spoke to exactly what couples are increasingly looking for from a destination wedding: meaningful connection, luxe experiences and quality time with their people. And while the scenery was (obviously) spectacular, the biggest takeaway was something much simpler – destination weddings create space for genuine connection in a way that’s pretty hard to replicate anywhere else.

Because while Yangaro showcased everything couples could want from a Whitsundays wedding venue, this trip reminded the whole wedding crew in attendance of something equally important: behind every celebration is a community of passionate people who genuinely care about creating something spesh. Opportunities like this let us reconnect, collaborate, learn from each other and celebrate the industry we all work so hard to support.

Why Multi-Day Destination Weddings Are Having a Moment

The itinerary said everything about why couples are increasingly ditching the one-and-done wedding day in favour of something a little slower, a little longer and a whole lot more fun.

Wellness experiences including a divine yoga session by Leah, in-villa breakfasts and uninterrupted views across the bay. The kind of downtime that feels almost radical. And then there were the moments no itinerary could plan for.

The conversations between strangers, stories swapped over dinner (helps when the food is by Coastal Food Design, so delish), laughter that carried well past the formalities, even magic moments by Matt! – all the best bits of a real-life wedding coming into play when a group of wedding professionals swapped the runsheet for the guest experience.

This is what couples actually remember about their Whitsundays destination wedding – not the perfectly pressed napkins or the gold cutlery (though, slay guys, if that’s your thing), but the unscripted ones. Experiencing it firsthand was a good reminder of why multi-day wedding celebrations aren’t just a trend. They’re onto something.

Experiencing Yangaro Beyond the Wedding Day

Destination wedding venues are increasingly being judged on more than just where the ceremony and reception take place. Couples want to know how their guests will spend their downtime, what experiences are available and whether the venue can carry an entire wedding weekend. The second day of this trip was designed to answer exactly those questions.

The morning centred around wellness and relaxation, as we experienced the slower pace that makes the Whitsundays such a sought-after wedding destination. Time was spent enjoying the property’s facilities, exploring the grounds and taking in the natural beauty surrounding the estate.

A lush picnic lunch, thanks to Airlie Picnic Co, on the ceremony lawn offered another opportunity to experience one of Yangaro’s event spaces in a completely different way, highlighting the versatility that many couples are now seeking when planning destination ‘I dos’ celebrations.

The Magic of the Whitsundays | Sunset cruising with The Coral Club

Obviously, no trip to the Whitsundays would be complete without getting out on the water. Enter The Coral Club Whitsundays.

As the sun began to dip, we boarded a luxury yacht limencollo spritz in hand. Golden hour did its thing, showing off the kind of scenery that makes you get it immediately – why couples fly from all over Australia to get married here. Why wouldn’t you?

And then there was the caviar. Because apparently this is just how Mondays work in the Whitsundays. We’re here for it.

As the boat drifted across water so blue it looked fake, conversations flowed, laughter got louder and by the time we made it back to shore the dancefloor was pumping.

That’s the thing about the Whitsundays. It has a way of making people slow down, put their phones away and just… be somewhere. For couples dreaming of a destination wedding in Queensland that kind of magic is pretty hard to argue with.
