When planning their big day, Monica (a marketing manager) and Andrew (an architect) set out to create a unique celebration filled with urban inner-city vibes. Putting their personal twist on things (like using Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ as their first dance song), the couple learned a lot throughout the process.

Whilst Monica originally wanted a garden wedding, she says, “Andrew didn’t want the stress of worrying about the weather, which was lucky in the end – March was a record month of rainfall! Andrew discovered the stunning auditorium at Barney’s Church on Broadway when he attended an architecture conference there. The second I saw the high curved ceiling and beautiful natural light, I knew this would be the place we would get married!” She adds that their reception at the Three Blue Ducks in Roseberry was “pretty spectacular” plus, with the help of florist Jardine Botanic there was the quaint garden element Monica wished for brought inside.

“Andrew grew up in Bronte with one of the ‘ducks’, Sam, and the cool warehouse matched the inner-city feeling of our ceremony. The food at The Ducks is also seriously delicious and made for sharing. We were so glad we picked a venue with such amazing food and wine. I had so many guests talk about their meal after.”

While the newlyweds say that they’re looking forward to “sharing the big and small moments” together, there’s no doubt that their photos, shot by lens-lady Zoe Morley, will be great to look back on as the years go by. “The wonderful Zoe Morley perfectly photographed our day. She was recommended to me by a friend after I said I really didn’t want cringey staged photos. Zoe’s portfolio is incredibly beautiful, candid shots with an editorial feel. She really captured the fun vibe of our wedding and the special, intimate moments that made the day,” the bride tells us, before sharing her words of wisdom.

“I took recommendations of suppliers from friends and colleagues whose taste I like, then booked them in and just left them to do what they are best at. Instagram is also useful to find suppliers’ past work. Focus your budget on what matters to you as a couple; for us, it was good food, wine and music. Ditch all of the other tiny details that seriously add up in cost. No one else noticed anyway!”
