Gab & Shaun's Byron Bay wedding

There’s something innately dreamy about Northern Rivers nups, don’t you reckon? Hosted at epic seaside wedding venue Byron Bay Surf Club, Gabrielle and Shaun’s was no exception. For this duo, who have been together for 10 years, it was all about being completely present and not getting caught up in any nitty-gritty wedding-day-weeds. “The day was inspired by our relationship,” they share, “simple, easy-going, and all about enjoying the moment.” You see why we love these guys?

Singing the praises of their “incredible” vendors (inc. our buds at Photo Corner), the newlyweds said that they “couldn’t have asked for a better team.” They also said their photographer, Alexandra Moore, was “nothing short of amazing”. THE VENUE “My mum had suggested years ago, during a family holiday, that it would be a beautiful place for a wedding. So, when it was time to start planning, it was the only place we even considered!”

FAVE DETAILS “One of my favourite details was definitely the cake. It was a standout. We chose a simple, multi-tiered cake that tasted amazing! On top, it had two words: Just Married. As for the flowers, we kept them vibrant and wild. We went with a mix of colourful blooms that weren’t too formal, just like the rest of the day. The bouquets and table arrangements had that relaxed, natural feel, and they added so much life to the venue. Lastly, our favours were little personalised gifts: Melting Moments for each person, the recipe was my late nan’s. It was a small touch, but it gave everyone something to remember the day by.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “After the ceremony and cocktail hour, we were all enjoying the food, drinks, and great conversations when the speeches started. Suddenly, our MC called us up to the front, and out of nowhere, music started blasting. One by one, family and friends got up and made their way to the dance floor, and then boom, a full-on flash mob broke out! We were completely shocked. It took us a few moments to actually process what was happening. It was such an unexpected and fun surprise, a standout moment of the day!”

LITTLE LOL “We totally smoke-bombed our own wedding! The wedding planner, Byron Bay Weddings, came up and asked if we wanted to keep the party going, but by that point, my shoes had been off for over an hour, and Shaun’s voice was starting to go. We looked at each other, shrugged, and said, “Let’s call it!” We played our last song Country Roads, Take Me Home and danced and sang until our hearts couldn’t take it anymore. Then, we snuck out the back door, jumped into an Uber and headed home. We got into bed, laughed, and chatted about the day and night, feeling like the luckiest people ever.”

STANDOUT VENDOR “Our photographer, Alex, was nothing short of amazing. Not only did she capture each precious moment perfectly, but she also made us feel so completely at ease in front of the camera. Alex had this incredible way of blending into the background, capturing the most candid, authentic moments without us even realising. When we saw the photos afterwards, we were completely blown away. The way she captured the emotion, the laughter, and the little details brought the day flooding back to us, as if we were reliving it all over again. Alex went above and beyond in ways we never imagined. She stayed late, making sure every shot was taken and that no moment was missed. She truly helped make our day feel like a dream, and we’ll forever be grateful for the magic she created through her lens. So talented!”
