Pulling off the urban wedding of our dreams, complete with a Jazz trio and gelato cart, Amanda and Matt tied the knot after six years together. These two sweethearts were keen to finally solidify their familial bond with Matt particularly stoked to be official stepdad at last to Amanda’s sweet son (who looked exceptionally dapper in his M.J. Bale groomsmen suit!). The bride wore a classic sparkly and tulle Karen Willis Holmes number with a detachable skirt (party goals). Luckily, our friend James Simmons was there to photograph all the sweet moments. Scroll down for more….
THE VENUE “We were determined to make the venues somewhere that really represented ‘us’. We chose the State Theatre Courtyard, because Matt, Andy and I would often buy gelato nearby, then hang out together there while we ate it. We chose Gordon Street Garage because we often go there together for coffees and lunches, but we also just love the aesthetic of the space.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Once we were married at the ceremony, we walked down the aisle and straight to the gelato cart [Stampede Gelato]. We thought we were pretty funny! And it was nice to have the gelato to cool down just before our guests came up to say congratulations.”
THE DRESS “The dress was genuinely the hardest part of planning the wedding! I didn’t know what I wanted at all, I just knew what I didn’t want. The dress I chose was from Karen Willis Holmes. It was very out of character for me to choose something like this. It was very figure-hugging, with extra skinny spaghetti straps but it felt so right and it made me feel so majestic! With the addition of that big, fluffy train – I truly felt like it was perfect for me. I got to have all the fluff of a big wedding dress, then I could take it off and party in my sparkly cocktail gown.”
WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t give yourself anything to do on the day. Make sure all tasks have been allocated to someone then literally forget about them! What will be, will be. And you’ll enjoy your day so much more if you can relax and just go with it.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Gordon Street Garage went above and beyond for us in a way that we never expected. We were truly treated like family, as though our wedding was the most important thing for each and every person who was working there. They gave us LOADS of their time leading up to the day. They took care of everything for the setup including printing of menus and even deciding what went where. Our photographers [James Simmons Photography] were also heaps of fun to have around. Our guests were constantly commenting on how great they were and the photos we have of the day are incredible. We also loved our celebrant Andrew Baker. He was a genuinely lovely person who had a real passion for what he was doing.”
