These two got engaged on their three-year anniversary during a spontaneous picnic Hilton organised, that resulted in so much celebration they both had to call in a sickie the next day. Add their wonderful wedding to this story and you can see why we like them. Photographer extraordinaire, Alannah Liddell was there to capture it on camera, so scroll down for all the deets…

THE VENUECoast Port Beach had such a warm, relaxed, chill vibe. They also had big floor to ceiling windows where you could see the beach and sunset and a lot of natural light. Plus, in comparison to all the other venues it was a steal, they were so flexible with any random requests we had and nothing was too hard for them.”

THE THEME “Our main vibe was modern romantic. I just knew I wanted outrageously bright flowers as our wedding was at the start of summer and bright colours are always fun. Rebecca from Natural Art Flowers seemed to have balanced the bright colours without making the wedding vibe too loud in appearance.”

THE DRESS “I tried to buy a dress off the rack but after finding out you should budget another $500-$750 for alterations which wasn’t included in the price, it honestly made no sense, so I decided to get one made. It was a stressful process. I think you need to be 110% confident in what you want when you get a dress made.”

TALK ABOUT TRADITION “My brothers did a speech and incorporated a “Yam Seng,” or “cheers”. It is a Cantonese term that literally means “drink to victory,” is usually practiced in wedding celebrations to congratulate the groom for marrying his bride. The guest in unison will yell “yam seng” at the top of their lungs. A lot of our guests were not Chinese so it was fun to see them yell and get involved even though they had no idea what they were doing.”

LITTLE LOL “The best-man made Hilton do a shoe-y in front of all our family and friends. Poor guy had one wet foot the whole night.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Hilton and I always knew we wanted to have some sort of an after party. Everyone always tells you how fast your wedding day goes and people are pulling you left, right and centre so we decided to have a bus take all our friends back into the city where we hired a Karaoke room and provided more drinks and food and made our own little dance floor. It was the best because they don’t have lock out and we left at 430am! Our DJ also joined in on the fun! It was just such a nice way to spend more time with friends.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Rebecca from Natural Art Flowers. She was not only my florist but a stylist, a last-minute sign hanger/ problem solver. No task was too big for her and she even gave me a sneak peak of the florals the day before the wedding!  Also Jacqui Bradfield [makeup] was a hoot! And the event manager, Jade Mullen at Coast Port Beach was also the easiest person to work with.”
