Sometimes life throws us things that we don’t expect – like when Matilda discovered she was pregnant the month before she and Franco were due to say ‘I do’! “This was supposed to happen after the wedding rather than before,” they laugh, but it didn’t stop them from having a ripper of a day (despite the bride suffering severe morning sickness in the lead-up).
“Luckily, and likely due to adrenaline and nerves the day, the wedding was the only day of the entire pregnancy until that point that the sickness subsided and stayed away for the majority of the night!”
With a theme of “white with lots of greenery and foliage”, Matilda and Franco put all styling in the hands of Hygge Studio, “and the setup exceeded all of our expectations”, they tell us. The fabulous folks from Lilac in Hand Photography were in attendance, snapping away to capture all the mems, and we are loving on these shots! Take a scroll – you won’t be disappointed!
THE VENUE “We both always wanted to get married at Waverley Estate so it was an easy choice! Matilda grew up in Middleton (a suburb across from Port Elliot) and actually worked at the cafe next door to Waverley, so always dreamt of getting married there since she was a kid. When I first started working, I often drove past the venue and fell in love with it, too. We also loved that we and our closest family/friends could stay onsite the day before and night of, and our guests could make a weekend of it if they wanted down along the coast.”
FAVE DETAILS “We loved the look of the wedding party together, the colour of the boys’ suit jackets looked so lovely against the white bridesmaids’ dresses and white bouquets.”
THE DRESS “My dress was found accidentally on a quick trip to Melbourne! Our flight home was delayed and I had my eye on KYHA Studios boutique so decided to go and have a look. The dress was the second one I tried on – I had planned for a custom dress and was talking to the designer about styles when this dress caught my eye, I put it on and we paid the deposit that day! I had it altered in Adelaide, and as I was a few weeks pregnant left this very late in case of any sudden bump exposure!”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Just before the entry to the reception, the wedding party was in the estate’s main house eating canapés and enjoying some drinks and Franco felt it was the right moment to tell all of his groomsmen that I was pregnant and we were having a little girl. It was such a special moment. Everyone was so emotional but then had to compose themselves again before the reception (and obviously not tell anyone else before the night was done!).”
WE WISH WE… “The only thing we could have done differently was not buying so much dessert to serve. In true Italian style, it was the only option, however, we were left with ridiculous amounts of eclairs and cannoli – all of which was finished in our own time!”
