A wedding of epic proportions, Katie and Matt met almost 10 years ago in a “super seedy Darwin bar” and were engaged for 16 months before their big day. “The perfect amount of time for a super disorganised and indecisive bride like me,” admits Katie. Living in Cairns, they enlisted the help of local event planner and stylist, Found Collective and Flowers in Nature (both standout vendors) to bring to life the “relaxed boho with a touch of glamour,” theme of the day. The Raw Photographer (yet another vendor with rave reviews) was there to capture it all on camera, so scroll down for more…

THE VENUE “I had three pre-requisites for our wedding venue; old stone buildings, doggo friendly and a place where we could transition from ceremony to reception with just a few steps. My mum found Woodburn Homestead and when I saw the open ceiling stone barn I was sold. It was the perfect place for my Boho dream to come to life and it literally ticked all of our boxes.”

FAVOURITE DETAILSFlowers in Nature absolutely blew us away with all of the dried floral masterpieces. I wanted our ceremony, reception and everything in between to be literally overflowing with blooms and my inspiration was soft earthy, neutral tones with pops of burnt orange and auburn. I gave Amanda full creative control over which flowers to use, ensuring she was able to source ethically and in season. What made it all even more special is that she incorporated bunches of dried honesty, proteas and crepe myrtle stalks from my mother’s own garden within the arrangements, adding a sentimental touch that brought both my mum and I to tears. Also, Kelly of Found Collective our incredible wedding planner and stylist extraordinaire was honestly like my fairy godmother – she styled our day to perfection and I loved every little element and the way it all worked so well together! Every detail was so meticulously thought out, planned and executed perfectly, from the rugs to the candlesticks, to the burnt orange napkins and the cane furnishings. She ensured the entire flow and style of our day was perfect and that everything fit our theme to an absolute tee.”

THE DRESS “My dream dress was from Anna Campbell and it was absolutely love at first sight. When I slipped into the ‘Sydney’ it fit me like a glove and made me feel instantly the glamorous Boho bride. The whole experience with Anna Campbell was amazing. For the pre-wedding shoot, I found an incredible designer, Bibiluxe via Etsy. I sent all of my measurements off only five weeks out and it arrived just in time – the perfect contrast to my sparkling Anna Campbell.”

LITTLE LOL “Our dog Lenny ran off with the rings just before he was meant to walk down the aisle as ring bearer, resulting in me (Katie), our musician and half the bar staff chasing him around the car park in a frenzy – there’s never a dull moment for us!”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Didn’t cut the cake – we smashed a doughnut piñata instead. Did a pre-wedding photoshoot the day before and a first look and all of our bridal party photos out of the way with before the ceremony in order to maximise our time with guests afterwards. Had our speeches on the lawn during canapé hour and perhaps our favourite thing of all is that we officially got married the day before, with just our mums in attendance so that on the BIG day, Matt’s cousin Alex could officiate for us.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Kelly from Found Collective. Her attention to detail is absolutely incredible and she goes above and beyond for her clients. We could not have been more grateful to have her leading the charge for our day. Jason from The Raw Photographer – I am so thankful we decided to bring him down from Cairns. Our day would not have been the same without him! I still look at our photos every day, we could not be more thankful – seriously wow! The team from Woodburn Homestead and my hairstylist (Inner Goddess Hair)and makeup artist, Makeup by Carly. Last but definitely not least is Amanda from Flowers in Natureshe helped to make my entire boho wedding dream a reality!”
