JEN & GAZ’S MELBOURNE WEDDING

Oh, but where to start dear readers! The insanely unique pastel purple tyre wall? Or maybe the fact that Zooper Doopers were consumed with abandon? This, friends is a wedding we would have LOVED an invite to. Gaz and Jen started planning this epic party the day after Gaz proposed halfway through a ski run in Japan. The couple then dug a bottle of champagne out of the snow that Gaz had pre-planted and “toasted each other for being dead-set legends”. Music was a big part of this couples day with 9 dedicated playlists, a stage and custom made band posters.

Nomad Stying was the brains behind this operation (and when we say operation we mean an explosion of colour, fun and bloody good times) and photographer Beck Rocchi went along for the ride too, ensuring every perfect detail was immortalised from the vibrant florals to the decadent grazing tables. Scroll down for more…

THE VENUE I reckon I was 4 years deep into the hashtag “#surfcoastwedding” or something like that – on the hunt for a sick shed. As soon as I saw the shot of Wolseley Wines I knew it was it. We went there, met Will (who might be the coolest venue owner going around) and he tried to scare us off. He told us later he likes to weed out the annoying couples, so he was like  “I’m not cleaning this up for you and I’m gonna get super loose at the reception” and we were like “YEH BUD ROCK ON – lock us in!.”

THE VIBE “We knew we didn’t want something too traditional, as that’s not really us – and we wanted our guests to be like “that’s so Gaz + Jen”.  Words we kept using to describe it were “rockstar”, “trashy”, “bright” “fun”, and “sparkly”. At one point we also said that if Slash and Kurt Cobain were one person – and they married a Courtney Love/Cara Delevingne hybrid – that they’d totally want this wedding.’”

THE DRESS “I came across an image of a Hermione de Paula gown. I never thought I’d be drawn to lace… But as soon as I saw it,  I was like “Ah – that’s perfect”. Turns out – the week we were going to be in NYC for a dear friend Sarah’s 40th – they were going to be there for a trunk show. It was NYBW. All very serendipitous. I went there, met Hermione and Lucy and tried on all their gowns. They actually didn’t have the dress I wanted with them – but after meeting the girls, and seeing the workmanship in the other gowns, I knew I was onto a good thing. Once I was back in Australia, over Skype, we listed out all of my favourite elements from each of the gowns – this sleeve length, that back, this neckline, that belt, this colour… and my dream dress started to form. Our favourite lyrics are embroidered into the seams, and our initials are printed on my sleeve. It’s the most whimsical, beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

STANDOUT VENDOR Beyond being our stylist, Shonel from Nomad Stying was our therapist, rock, mentor, motivator and cool magnet. It was super comforting having such a radical seasoned professional in our corner. Take a bloody look at what she’s done. Have you ever seen anything better? She spent time getting to know us. We told her we wanted it to be “us” and that’s exactly what she did. Every bit of info she learned about us has been injected into that design. You’d be hard pressed to find a single detail that doesn’t have intention behind it. We felt at home at our wedding. Also, massive shout out to Beck Rocchi, who was our dream photographer. She’s a barrel of laughs, so artistic, and bloody amazing.

FAVOURITE DETAILS “We did things a little differently and wrote four mini-speeches to each other.  To us, this was the most important part of the day – the time when we tell each other why we’re there.  I thought I’d be uncomfortable pouring my heart out in public, but I loved every moment of it.”

LITTLE LOL Everyone was bawling after the vows (guests, bridal party and vendors!) and someone handed me some tissues – people called out to “dab” not wipe – and Gaz, not realising what was happening started actually ”Dabbing”. As in, the dance move.”
