Meet Hannah and Sam, guys. They are a super stylish duo, passionate about the arts, and designed their delicious wedding to reflect just that. We put a lot of effort into choosing vendors who we knew could bring our dream day to life. Leaning on them was one of our best decisions.” That it was! And two of their best choices? Hiring She Takes Pictures He Makes Films for the photography and cinematography side of things, and going to one of our favourite bridal stores, Mrs Fray, for the stunning gown. Scroll down for all the deets…

THE VENUE “We both love MONA – it has a special mix of architecture, art and nature (and an incredible events team). We checked out a few places in Sydney, but once we knew MONA was possible it was the only place for us.”

THE INSPO “We didn’t have a defined theme but we started telling our vendors that we were looking for ‘joy and chaos’ to give them a feel for what to do. They absolutely delivered! Give your vendors scope to be creative and they will reward you a thousand times over – they’ve definitely done more weddings than you have!”

FAVE DETAILS “The flowers that Bek Burrows Styling + Events did across the day were incredible! From the dahlias in my bouquet to the buttonholes featuring native plants she was able to accommodate all of our preferences. Every little detail was perfection. Plus her table styling was amazing.”

THE DRESS “My dress was the beautiful BB:13 from Bon Bridé, a UK designer stocked through Mrs Fray in Canberra. My sister and I did a road trip and we both found our wedding dresses there in the one visit! Hunting online (a lot) helped me to narrow down the styles I liked – I tried on three dresses before I found the one. Amy from Mrs Fray was a delight, she was so welcoming and friendly and made the whole experience entirely stress-free. Bon Bridé were also fabulous to work with; they accommodated my request for customised details, with the addition of long sleeves and beautiful pearls stitched around the back cut out and cuffs.”

REFERENCES “Planning a remote wedding meant that we did a lot of internet stalking! We used Instagram for style inspiration and Hello May was invaluable for vendors in Tasmania for just about everything.”

COOL CUSTOMS “We aren’t religious, but we did think carefully about how we wanted our wedding to reflect our values. This meant that having a mixed wedding party was a no-brainer (Sam had a Best Woman and a Groomswoman, I had a Bridesman). I walked the aisle with both parents and made sure that I walked the last few steps to Sam by myself, rather than any formal ‘giving away’. We also worked closely with our lovely celebrant  Maria Bond to include a meaningful acknowledgement of country.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Included live entertainment at our wedding, especially the MONA Music Cluster Ensemble! A roaming band and dancer/ performer met us and our guests as the ferry arrived and led everyone through the grounds and tunnels of MONA to where pre-wedding drinks were served. We were looking to add an element of ‘chaotic joy’ and they delivered in spades – they set the scene for our guests to be constantly surprised.”

STANDOUT VENDORSShe Takes Pictures He Makes Films were superstars, capturing every little detail of the day in such spectacular fashion, they’re also super lovely to hang out with! Bek Burrows Styling + Events made everything look jaw-droppingly good. Bek was also invaluable in connecting us with so many wonderful Hobart vendors like the supremely talented harpist Emily Sanzaro. Shelley and Sarah from the Events team at MONA went above and beyond throughout the two years of planning and postponements. On the day, they were across everything, even suppling some of our guests with slippers at the end of the night! Sophia Pafitis did the most stunning makeup, I felt like my best self and Jason Fassbender, my hairdresser of 15 years, did an incredible job. Having someone so familiar there was really special and took a lot of the nerves out of getting ready.”
