In case you missed it we kicked our ‘Best Of 2018’ series off last week with the most popular bouquets from the past 12 months (according to your clicks, likes and comments throughout the year), then it was onto Bridal Parties, Cakes, Bridal Gowns and Table Styling and today, on new years eve, we’re wrapping things up with the most loved overall Real Weddings of 2018.
And oh what a year its been! Since our very first issue almost seven years ago, we’ve been telling readers to ignore trends and to go their own way and my oh my, they did that and then some in 2018 as this list is a diverse mix of couples focusing on what is important to them, not what others are doing.
So without further adieu ladies and gents, pull up your Pinterest board and get note taking, here, in no particular order, are our top Real Weddings of 2018…
VICTORIA AND COLIN, VIC
Victoria (wearing Grace Loves Lace) and Col first appeared in our fourth annual Real Wedding Special and right from the start we were excited to share their day with you all. Why? Because this is a couple who happily threw tradition out the window and planned a wedding that was a true representation of them as a couple. The gorgeous photos by one of our fave Melbourne photographers, Elsa Campbell, show two humans in love who are relaxed in their own skin and out to have a good time. Something that could not be achieved if they were trying to emulate someone else’s wedding or copy everything they’d seen someone else do on Pinterest. We tip our hats to these guys and hope future couples will take a leaf out of their book.
NOMI & EMMA, VIC
Another wedding that was as beautiful and unique as the two humans involved. Nomi and Emma’s wedding had the buzz, happiness and laughter one would expect from a giant family dinner. Which is exactly what a wedding is we guess. Photographed by Dan O’Day, the brides each looked stunning in their Lost In Paris Bridal and Zimmermann gowns. To read our interview with sustainable fashion designer Alyssa from Lost In Paris be sure to pick up issue 23.
LISA & JAMES, WA
It’s not hard to see why this was one of our most viewed weddings of 2018, withLisa’ss stunning gold gown stealing the show. But it’s not all about the dress but the reasoning behind it as Lisa tells us ““Throughout the whole process we stayed focused on what we knew was going to add value to our day. It is so easy to get caught up in all little things but at the end of the day if you invest in what matters – good music, good food, good wine – you can’t go wrong. My advice to brides would be to wear whatever feels right for you on the day… You are a bride because it’s your wedding day not because of your white dress.” This wedding was photographed by James Simmons who also happens to have shot the cover of our brand new issue 23, on sale now and stocked at newsagents nationally.
PHILLIPA AND WILL, VIC
Philly and Will also made our Top 10 Bridal Parties of 2018 list. Phillipa’s stunning gown was designed by Kyha from One Day Bridal and the bride has nothing but positive things to say about the experience telling us “Kyha got me from the moment I met her. She sketched a design of the dress right there and then and it was perfect. I loved the whole process with her.” This wedding was photographed by Katie Harmsworth – one of Victorias very best lens ladies! You can check out more of her work here.
EMMA & DYLAN, NSW
Having already made our Top 10 Bridal Parties AND Bridal Gowns lists of 2018 it’s no surprise to see Emma and Dylan make the top 10 most viewed weddings of the year as well. Emma, wearing Made With Love, married her own love amongst the 100-year-old Camphor Laurel Trees lining the property of Casa Ciani. This wedding, photographed by Joey Willis, was first published in issue 20, available for purchase here. You can check out some of our fave Made With Love gown here along with our interview with owner and founder Carla Jenkins.
LU & RICH, NSW
Another repeat offender, Lu and her maids made our Best Bridal Parties of 2018 list, this Byron Shire wedding was brought together by The Story of Us and photographed by one of our fave photographers, Janneke Storm with a few of our fave vendors along for the ride including The White Tree band, Sperry Tents and hair and makeup artists The Future Mrs. Love the photographic stylings of the amazing Janneke Storm as much as we do? She also shot the cover of issue 17 and issue 19, both available for purchase here.
ASLINN & CAMERON, WA
One of our most viewed weddings of 2017 was a Spell Bride and it’s a pleasure to have another grace our 2018 list. These two lovebirds tied the knot at Rustico at Hay Shed Hill, photographed by Paris Hawken Weddings, it’s easy to see why this laid-back country affair was so popular with our readers. Paris is one of our fave up and coming West Oz photographers. If you love her style as much as we do be sure to check out more of her work here.
HANNAH & JAMES, NSW
Photographer Blaise Bell has to be one of our fave up and coming Sydney wedding photographers so naturally we were stoked to see his name appear in the Top 10 most viewed weddings of 2018! Married at Bawley Bush Retreat, Hannah and James where all about planning a day that was true to them as Hannah tells us “Make your wedding yours! Start which blank sheets: what is important for you two to include at a party? What traditions would you like? Who are you as a couple? Your interests, and so on. Instead of thinking, what is expected when you have a wedding”. Sounds like sound advice to us! If you love Blaise’s work as much as we do be sure to check out more of it here.
JOANNE & ASH, SA
This gorgeous day was photographed by South Oz native (but now Byron Bay local) Shane Shepherd Photography. And oh what a day it was, as the bride tells us “Our focus was on good food, good wine and good company. We wanted to create a really comfortable, fun atmosphere for our loved ones. So many had travelled from all over Australia, so it was important to us to host a good party for them. We wanted to show off Adelaide’s wine, food and the beautiful landscape, so we opted for a clear marquee to really make the land the feature”. You can check out more of Shane’s beautiful photos here.
MALEAH & DANIEL, NZ
Rounding out our Top 10 most viewed weddings (according to your clicks, likes and comments through out the year) is this cool and casual kiwi wedding photographed by Vladan Gajic Photography, another new kid on the block who’s work we’re seriously digging. Our fave detail from this day? The bride found her dress at an op-shop! Click here to read the full story.
