We don’t think we have ever come across a more relaxed bride and groom. Simone & Josh organised their wedding in just 4 weeks, shopping for their outfits (get a load of the groom’s Blundstones!) together just a week before. For their easy-going affair, the duo opted for a Vegas-style ceremony followed by a backyard house party, walking back down the aisle to Abba’s ‘I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do’. Kitschy, chilled and packed full of groovy ideas, this might just be one of our fave weddings of 2020. The wonderful Hailey of One Spoon Two Spoon was there to capture it all. Scroll down for the goods…
THE VENUE “We initially met Dee Brinsmead, The Altar Electric crew and Hailey Birch of One Spoon Two Spoon when we were the ‘models’ in a photoshoot for them for Broadsheet Melbourne in 2017. We had a great time with them and loved the premise of the Vegas-style quickie wedding in Melbourne. We knew if we were to be married in Melbourne we’d contact The Altar Electric and One Spoon Two Spoon because they were so much fun and aesthetically right down our alley.”
THE VIBE “We originally wanted to be married in Palm Springs as we love mid-century design, had visited a few times and had also made road trips throughout the deserts in the US. Hailey from One Spoon Two Spoon knew about our love for deserts and Palm Springs so found a photography location where we could bring the desert to us for a few moments in Melbourne.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “All of the cakes and food was made by family. We had decided to have a good old house party for our ceremony. We strung lights all over our backyard, borrowed vintage outdoor furniture from our neighbour, moved our record player and 70s couches outside and created a plant party oasis in our backyard. My best friend Lisa created a menu of cocktails, sourced 60s cocktail glasses, decorations and equipment and was the self-designated cocktail maker on the night.”
LITTLE LOL “I’m quite obsessed with plants and immediately after the ceremony I bought a plant from the plant store in the same studio as The Altar Electric. The plant is thriving!”
A WORD OF ADVICE “You can do small, inexpensive weddings really well. Sometimes the more conservatively you spend money, the more of your own personality and creativity shines through. Also, backyard house party receptions are so much fun!”
