Lovebirds Sofia and Troy are pretty busy in the day-to-day – so much so that wedding planning felt like a break! “I work as a brand strategist in robotics and Troy works as a software engineer for Instagram,” explains the bride. “We both work a lot and have long hours — getting married and having the excuse of planning a wedding was a great break on the weekends!” After 10 years together, a surprise proposal on their anniversary (complete with a ring the groom designed himself – well done!) and a 10-month engagement, the duo got hitched in front of their nearest and dearest in July 2021 – and promised that, no matter how busy life gets, they’ll “always [put] each other first, spare a moment for each other and slow down to enjoy things”.

With Peggy Saas at the photography helm on the big day, you just know the pics are superb – not to mention all the other fabulous vendors who came together to pull off this stunning urban-chic event. From a  gorgeous gauzy dress by US designer Kamperett to the stunning lighting design by Festoon, this wedding was definitely one for the books!

THE VENUE “We loved the idea of a DIY space, something we could really make our own. Our wedding planners, Confetti & Co Events, suggested Perth City Farm as a nice balance of space for both our ceremony and reception. And it was. We liked the idea of two different rooms but no travel time for our guests as some of them were travelling from outer Perth. Although Perth City Farm is a warehouse and barn space it felt very warm and down up on the day. It’s amazing what a thick linen table cloth and black cutlery will do.”

THE VIBE “Our theme was ‘celebration’. I’ve always loved the festivity behind a champagne tower but never seen one in real life and this felt like the perfect moment to have one. For the reception, we went for a sophisticated darker look.”

THE DRESS “I purchased my dress from Kamperett in San Francisco. I’ve been a longtime customer of the designer Val’s volume collections and love her silk slips as summer dresses. When it came to selecting my wedding dress I instantly knew the one. I chose the Meiere Gown in ivory silk organza for the ceremony and the Laurence dress in black for the reception. The process was very straightforward as her designs are ready-to-wear, so there are no complicated fittings involved. All of the Kamperett designs are special and unusual. You can easily mix and match the slips. I’m planning on wearing my black dress for years to come.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “I loved the combination of oysters from Thee Shucker and champagne. We splurged on the cocktail hour and ordered Laurent-Perrier. It was served in crystal Marie Antoinette glasses. They were so thick and heavy, it was the perfect decadence to start us off. The flowers were also incredible. Annaliese from Signature Floral Design added a bit of colour into my bouquet and I’m so happy she did. It was a spark of burnt orange that set off my all-cream ensemble. She also designed and created the most amazing altar installation. It was expansive and forest green, it looked perfect against the white brick wall and warehouse windows.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “All of our vendors were amazing. We were so lucky with incredible service from Supper Road and magical florals from Signature Floral Design. We really connected with Holly and Sarah, our wedding planners from Confetti & Co Events. They were so calm on the day and helped guide us through everything — from the food to the dancing. They were there from start to finish, which helped us feel more relaxed and enjoy the evening. We also connected with our photographers, Peggy Saas and Elena. They were able to capture all these wonderful moments that I didn’t even see on the day because everything was moving so fast. I love their documentation style of photography, they capture so freely while you’re just enjoying yourself.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Invite everyone. We were originally planning a much smaller wedding but decided to open it up and really celebrate. It was the best decision, especially because everyone who wasn’t in Perth wasn’t able to make it. These kinds of events are so special for the entire family and friends. It made us so happy to be able to host our nearest and dearest for the occasion.”
