Self-described “untraditional” pair Tayah and Charlotte hosted the official part of the wedding at Willie the Boatman Brewery in Sydney’s Inner West before boogying the night away at bold and bright Pinky Ji’s Indian restaurant/bar. SUCH.a.vibe!
Planning their big day, these two were never tempted to follow the status quo. After all, where’s the fun in that? “A wedding can really be anything; it doesn’t necessarily need to be big or white,” the newlyweds share. “We are all unique, as is the love we share for each other… just let that shine on through.”
We don’t need to tell you folks that Tayah and Charlotte know how to throw a flippin’ fab party (it’s pretty apparent from Charlotte Fraser Photography’s handiwork below). But we’re also big fans of their engagement story, which involved the couple spending a “magical day” with Temple of the Sun, co-creating some beautiful bespoke betrothal bling. That’s a date-day that’s hard to beat!
You’re going to be OBSESSED with this one, trust us. Scroll on…
THE VENUE “You could say we stumbled upon it in a panic. We wanted to find a space with character, a venue that wasn’t always used for weddings. We were so excited when we came across Willie the Boatman. It was the perfect space. The venue was large, had loads of character, beautiful natural light and a space they called ‘The Den’. It was the perfect setting for our big day. Pinky Ji’s is an unauthentic Indian bar and restaurant in the Sydney CBD where we hosted our dinner and reception, and it was suggested to us by Charlotte’s mum. t had the perfect mix of atmosphere and amazing food and drinks that we knew would be such a fun way to end our celebration.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Our portrait photoshoot at Town Hall was definitely the highlight. It was just a short 40 minutes in between our ceremony and our reception, but it was such needed time together. Those portraits are definitely some of my favourite photos to go and look back at, where we are just in each other’s company, soaking in the joy of the day. My wife (Charlotte) doesn’t always love being the centre of attention. It was this time together in between ceremony and reception where we got to truly be ourselves and take a deep breath.”
MARRIAGE MEANS “It means everything, really. It sounds cliche, but we started out as two girls, with not a clue in the world. It was difficult learning to love each other whilst also trying to find love for ourselves. For both of us, marriage felt like the natural end to a six-year journey of love and acceptance. I always say being in a wlw relationship is like getting to have a sleepover with your best friend every night. We do our skincare together, get ready for bed together and gossip together. Marriage is getting to do those seemingly insignificant, yet heartwarming things, forever.”
WE’RE GLAD WE “Did the temporary tattoo station at our ceremony drinks in lieu of doing favours. It was so fun and interactive for our guests to get involved, and everyone loved it. Seeing everyone proudly sporting tattoos of us was hilarious and made for some really funny photos. Looking back, we wouldn’t have done it any other way – everyone had a blast, and it really added to the overall joy and vibe of the celebration.”
