Say hi to Shohan and Stephen, guys. They are loved-up and looking sharp and here are some stats… They had been an item for seven-and-a-half years before getting married, engaged for 14 months (after three proposal attempts, no less!) and describe marriage as “The ability to find love and appreciation in each other’s actions and little quirks.” Cute, huh? A few of our fave vendors brought their good vibes and skillsets to the day, Baker Boys Band and Zoe Morley, and for everything and everyone else, you can scroll down…

THE VENUE “We chose Pier One Sydney Harbour as it offered spectacular views of the harbour and many iconic sights which were perfect for the many family and friends that came to Sydney for the wedding. The wedding fell on the June long weekend during Vivid and meant that the harbour and vicinity were lit up in a way that is rarely seen. We also liked Pier One Sydney Harbour as we could have the ceremony in the Bridge Marquee and the reception in the Water Room, reducing the travel for attendees.”

THE INSPO “We wanted an elegant but not over the top feel. We chose native plants to adorn tables and to be hung from the ceiling at the reception, as well as form the arch in the ceremony. Given the time of year, our choice to have Black Tie suited guests that were prepared for the colder weather, but complemented our choice to wear jackets throughout.”

THE SUITS “Our suits came from Politix. Stephen had been excited about the jacket for quite some time and had difficulty tracking it down. Its fine features are what attracted him to it. As this was black, I chose a white dinner jacket but both had the same pants, bow ties and shoes for consistency. The white and black jackets were also set to contrast each groom’s skin tone, with Stephen, Caucasian and I, Sri Lankan.”

REFERENCES “The main vendors, Decorative Events & Exhibitions came from the venue, Pier One. They came highly recommended as they work closely with them. This meant they understood the space and the limitations as well as successful ideas. Finding a photographer that we could get along with and who had a great style were the driving factors. It may sound odd, but we wanted a photographer who could work with our complexions to ensure the best result on the day. We found Zoe Morley through her amazing Instagram account and drew us immediately to her.”

LITTLE LOL “The last-minute realisation that neither of us knew how to tie a bow tie. There was a moment of panic, a call to the concierge and the need to watch a YouTube video several times. This is one of our favourite candid photos taken during of the day.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Enjoy the experience, do as much as you can together but realise that each of you have strengths and to utilise these. Give each other the chance to share ideas and to together laugh at the failures that happen along the way. If you have strong ideas, go with them, don’t waste your time consulting different vendors to compare.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Having close friends/ family that have young children, getting Star Sitters Agency was fantastic as it allowed them to enjoy the reception as their kids were looked after. Also that we didn’t have our honeymoon immediately after the wedding. We were able to bask in the glow of the wedding and recover from it for a few weeks before heading to the US and Mexico. If they had been back to back it would have felt rushed.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Zoe Morley, our photographer was amazing. We loved her style and she had a great rapport with our guests too. We also are grateful to Decorative Events who made the styling very easy to arrange.”
