“Nancy got engaged in her 20’s in Amsterdam (age 29 years 364 days)” laughs Chris, proving these two are just as fun as their pictures depict. “We went boating on the canals with close friends followed by a little impromptu party. It ruined her birthday the next day as everyone was too hungover to join. Brilliant.” Fast forward 20 months and they tied the knot in these very cool Melbourne nuptials with florals from Pomp & Splendour and cake from Ladybird Cakes. THE INSPO “The stained glass roof and the carpet of the Great Hall (NGV) – I wanted them to sing. Which is why we went with a romantic, moody theme with reference to Renaissance & Dutch still life paintings of Flower art. It was pretty overwhelming seeing the great hall for the first time (flowers, cake, table settings, place cards, napkins), this was something I was dreaming up for 18 months (and rescheduled three times). I didn’t have a stylist making decisions for me, I didn’t have a showroom to see what the table layout would look like, it was all in my head and seeing it come together was incredible.”

REFERENCES “Referrals from the venue, Hello May, Instagram and other couple’s weddings.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “The traditional Greek ceremony was definitely one of the highlights of the day. The church was completely packed, but somehow it felt really intimate. Towards the end we weren’t exactly sure what was happening and Chris politely asked the priest if we were married yet and the whole church cracked up in laughter.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “[Chris] When confronted with a planning question: look thoughtful – then agree with whatever she says and don’t act surprised on the day. And go to other people’s weddings and think about what works and what doesn’t work. For us we learnt that if you want to have a good dance floor you shouldn’t have a bar as people love to congregate.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Chilled out and went with the flow all day. No phones, no expectations, no worries.”
