After El popped the question, Mel says, “I had this crazy sense of calm just washing over me, knowing that I was going to spend the rest of my life with El and everything felt exactly right.” That’s what you want, eh! The gorgeous Mel wore Karen Willis Holmes and the florals were by our friends over at Honey Bunch Botanicals (who now come highly recommended by the couple), so we were pretty sure we would love this wedding. The proof is in the pudding though, so scroll down for all the pics from Kenneth Lim Photographer and see for yourself…

LITTLE LOL “I don’t know if this really classifies as funny, but we were living in Byron Bay last year and had planned to just come back for two weeks, get married, and then fly back to continue our Byron lives. However, COVID [happened] and the WA border closed! We had to apply to come back for the wedding and were rejected three times. With the wedding only weeks away, it wasn’t looking good! Then the WA Police finally approved us to come back, on the condition we moved back to WA, so we sprung into action; it was CHAOS quickly packing up our lives and moving back to Perth.”

THE VENUE “We both love Fremantle. We have lots of fond memories of kissing in the streets, falling in love, and getting to know each other around Freo. Moore & Moore is so iconic in the area and we loved everything about the space. Charming, relaxed and gorgeous.”

THE INSPOWe wanted it to be chic, minimal and beautiful. The flowers were the main decoration and we loved the combination of exposed brick, concrete and different woods that the venue had to offer. There were so many candles all around inside, and fairy lights/ festoon lights everywhere outside, it was magic.”

FAVE DETAILSThe flowers were a big favourite for both of us. We are lucky to call Brooke from Honey Bunch Botanicals a dear friend, and over a series of coffee dates, she carefully brought our vision to life. Brooke created wild and romantic bouquets and installations that perfectly captured our personalities, style and love story.

THE DRESS “I (El) got my Chosen by KYHA dress from Vicki at Through the White Door which is a cute little boutique in North Freo. We kept our dresses a secret from each other until the day. I’m not usually a girly-girl when it comes to what I wear, but I just loved the silhouette and the neckline. I (Mel) was pretty late to the wedding dress party! I was actually on holiday in Melbourne to visit a good friend and she said look let’s use the one day we have to go dress shopping. We laughed at the few that made me look ridiculous before trying on THE DRESS [from Karen Willis Holmes]! I was instantly obsessed, I finally got what people meant about knowing as soon as you put it on.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “We would say try to make as many decisions about the day together as you can. Also, remember to have fun throughout each step, especially the planning. It’s about you two and what you want, so don’t worry too much about other people and their opinions!”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “After the ceremony and once we were done with the family photos, we went down to the docks in Freo near the Maritime Museum for some final photos at sunset. I’m so glad we did this, not only because the photos turned out amazing and were some of my favourites from the whole night, but also because it gave us time away from everyone to take a few special moments to be really present and just soak up that ‘just married’ butterflies feeling!”

STANDOUT VENDORS Annette Carone, our amazing celebrant was the stand out MVP. She was so inclusive and really respectful of our two bride situation which we so appreciated. We felt celebrated and not just tolerated. Also, the ceremony that she delivered was so above and beyond any expectations we had, her words were perfect and the feeling of the ceremony was exactly what we wanted.”
