These two have a dream job, guys. And a pretty damn dreamy life because of it. “Kiera and I work on a private yacht overseas together,” explains Ben. “We live onboard for the majority of the year working and travelling. We quite literally spend 24/7 with each other and never get bored! It’s a dream for many to travel the world with their partner and we are fortunate enough to do it as a job.” 14 years after first meeting, they tied the knot in this perfect wedding on the Northern Beaches with She Takes Pictures He Makes Films there to catch it all on camera (and don’t miss the video at the very bottom!)
THE VENUE “We travel a lot for work and have been to some of the most beautiful places in the world, yet our heart has always been in Pittwater. It’s where we grew up and there is just nowhere like it. We wanted all of our friends and family to experience the same magic we feel on the water and a boat ride on Pittwater to our favourite spot in Palm Beach was absolutely the only way to do that. The Boat House Palm Beach is our favourite breakfast spot, It’s always our first stop when we arrive back to Sydney.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “The boat trip down Pittwater on ‘Reliance’ (Pittwater Ferry Cruises) was the star. It set the tone for the rest of the night. Most of our day (the ceremony and reception time) was planned around the sunset and the harbour tide for that boat ride. All the florals were so amazing by Tash from Crowns and Wreaths – she is a very close school friend of Kiera’s, so it was really special too. And seeing the long table all set up when we arrived at The Boat House Palm Beach was spectacular. Our champagne tower instead of cake was also really cool.”
THE DRESS “The dress was by Alex Perry. I had tried on a number of dresses but never felt like I had found the one. I was away overseas for work and with the wedding only two months away, I saw the dress online and it was love at first sight. I wasn’t able to try the dress on to see if it fit or even suited me until I got home which was the week before the wedding!”
REFERENCES “Kiera found lots of inspiration from Hello May and The Boat House Palm Beach wedding fair. As a stereotypical male, I had never heard of Hello May until Kiera showed it to me but before long I was all over it! This is where I first found Alistair’s (from She Takes Pictures He Makes Films) wedding videos. They was so much more cinematic than others I’d seen. He seemed to pay more attention to the landscape than other cinematographers I had found. I wanted to be able to relive the day and not just the event and a big part of that is capturing the environment as much as the people. I followed a link to the website and found that he had an equally creative partner in Lucy (on photos). She is also crazy talented and her personal portfolio is amazing.”
WE’RE GLAD WE “Went small, it allowed us to spend a lot of time with a small amount of people instead of a small amount of time with a lot of people. We loved that.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Lucy and Ali (of She Takes Pictures He Makes Films). They both came early to shoot the boys for a surf on the morning of the wedding. Ali suited up with his GoPro and got belted in the surf trying to film us, while Lucy sat on the beach camera in hand with a towel protecting his from the rain. They then shot our entire wedding and the following morning messaged us early to say the morning sun was looking amazing and if we were up for a morning photo shoot they were ready. Both very dusty, we geared up into our wedding attire once more. Finding cover where we could as waves of heavy rain passed through, we got photos that really are probably the best of the weekend. Truly magical. They put in so many extra hours to produce the best possible product for us of the day.”
