Katie May and Danny are the creative, carefree adventurous types and naturally wanted their wedding day to reflect just that. Cue making their guests hike 1km to the stunning Green Cathedral in Tiona on the New South Wales north coast for their ceremony and placing emphasis (and budget) on hiring a great photographer (hey there Ben Adams Weddings) to capture the whole adventure from beginning to end. We’ll let the couple themselves fill you in on the rest!

THE PROPOSAL “Danny is really good at making Pinterest come to life. He put together a gorgeous homemade picnic feast by our lake, complete with mini breaky burgers. He even had non-alcoholic bubbly ready to pop as at 28 weeks pregnant I was also ready to pop! He got down on one knee, then took me away on a romantic baby-moon to our favourite beach in Shoal Bay”

THE DRESS “It took me almost a year to find a dress that was a ‘Katie-May Dress.’ I’m all about freedom. The let your hair blow in the wind and feel the rocks underneath your feet kind of freedom. The L’eto Bridal Coachella piece gave me that and more! It was just so much fun to wear. I’m a music festival lover too and I had so many great memories of Coachella so it really was a perfect fit”.

REFERENCES “Hello May is my ultimate go to, my favourite part is the real weddings. I’ve spent hours of my life enjoying the beautiful weddings and being inspired. The L’eto banner caught my attention and my dress finally found me. To find the right celebrant I literally typed the words into google ‘FUN HIPPY CELEBRANT’ and bam!”

LITTLE LOL“Not so funny more HEROIC! My dress designer Anya from L’eto was so passionate about delivering the dress in person she showed up to an appointment at her studio the day after she had EMERGENCY SURGERY to have her appendix taken out”.

MEMORABLE MOMENT “I was just so excited to be marrying my forever boy I was literally bouncing during the ceremony and I couldn’t stop kissing him which made everyone laugh. I remember there was so much happiness in the air it was so infectious so being surrounded by the happiest crowd and energy over the day was the most incredible feeling”.

TALK ABOUT TRADITION…“I want my daughter to grow up an independent and free-thinking woman so walking myself down the aisle was a way to lead by example. My dad was really proud of my decision and agreed wholeheartedly.”

A WORD OF ADVICE“Our wedding was a marathon starting at midday and partying to midnight. Danny opted for mid-strength beers for the midday lawn party to make sure our lovely guests could endure the long day, then we had a more open bar for the evening. Many of our guests thanked us the next day. Also, we left a lot of room in our budget for photography to capture the day so we could relive it whenever – best investment we made!”
