After nine years together, including one done long-distance, Kadie and James finally made things offish in June 2021. The pair (who share a passion for their work in the disability sector) met on a dating app, Kadie tells us, with expectations of a one-night fling – “I’m so grateful he never left!” she shares. Naww!
Nearly a decade later they said ‘I do’ in a bloody gorgeous part of the world, the Adelaide Hills, with a handful of friends and fam on hand to see these guys say some epic vows. Our good friend and talented lens lady Jessica Mary Photography snapped away, serving up some gorg photos of a day these two aren’t going to forget in a hurry!
THE VENUE “The two determining factors were wheelchair accessibility and an all-in-one location – accommodation, ceremony, reception and photo locations. We checked out a couple of different venues but they didn’t really vibe with what I was wanting; when we arrived at Longview Macclesfield I was sold! It was absolutely perfect. Then I met the wedding coordinators, Kayla and later on Callie, and was even more sure – they are so perfect at what they do, they have everything you’re looking for in a coordinator and more.”
THE VIBE “I love the rich colours of autumn and the cold weather of winter, so deep, dark red roses with emerald greens and just a pop of that warm burnt orange. I wanted cosy with a warm colour palate.”
FAVE DETAILS “I adore my bouquet, it was so simple and my red velvet roses were an absolute dream. My dress – OMG THOSE SLEEVES! I also loved the intimate, cosy feeling of dinner in the dance room at Longview. The room was set up with beautiful fairy lights above the dinner table, which was so simply and elegantly decorated with romantic candles and flowers, the warm fire and the couch from the ceremony in the corner. The room was just the right size that we didn’t feel crowded or like we had to yell over top of each other but not too small so that we couldn’t move.”
THE DRESS “I am OBSESSED with my dress – the beaded lace back, the sash and bow, the textured Mikado silk and the sleeves… Oh my God, the sleeves! They were my favourite part and not just because it was cold! I purchased my Cosmobella gown from Jenny & Gerry’s Bridal Centre back in late 2018, I wasn’t sure it was ‘the one’ but the people I took with me assured me it was. As time went on we locked in a date of June 2020, but unfortunately due to COVID we had to postpone. In mid-2020, I started working with the beautiful seamstresses Tia and Michelle at Jenny & Gerry’s, giving them lots of ideas about what I wanted, the bow and sleeves. They entertained all my ideas and constantly reassured me it would all come together beautifully – and it really did. It was everything I dreamed of and more.”
THE SUIT “We bought James suit from Ignition For Men, which is right below Jenny & Gerry’s, and worked with the very talented Gerry, who is an incredible tailor, to customise James’ four-piece dark blue suit to sit perfectly and comfortably – which is quite the challenge in a wheelchair. We had a total of five fittings with Gerry and we could not fault him at all. He is such a kind and talented man.”
WORD OF ADVICE “Trust your suppliers, they know what they are doing and have likely been doing it for a while. Give them lots of ideas as to what you want, eg. Pinterest boards, but trust them and the process. Also, ask them for recommendations for other vendors if you still need them.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “I cannot fault any of my vendors, all of them went above and beyond for me and James, and we are so grateful for them all. Jessica Mary Photography is fun and beautiful and so good at what she does, this is the second time we’ve used her as our photographer – in 2020, when we postponed, I felt awful for all the vendors. James and I are considered essential workers so we decided on the day that was supposed to be our wedding we would stay at Longview Macclesfield and have engagement photos done by Jessica Mary to keep supporting small businesses and scope out all the potential locations there for our wedding the following year. Alix the Celebrant is nothing short of INCREDIBLE. She is everything you want in a celebrant, the ultimate hype girl, the calm in a storm when things aren’t going to plan, she is supportive of any and all suggestions you have for your perfect day and she is your number one fan! She is also the kinda gal you want as a BFF, she is just sunshine and warmth in a beautiful package. Our videographer, Dylan Lee Photography, is such a fun and creative gentleman. He was the perfect amount of chill on the day, cool, calm and collected. I could not have asked for a better videographer to capture our day. And of course, the beautiful Longview coordinators, Kayla and Callie.”
