It was Christmas time two years ago when Jamie and Brett went on a hike with their daughter and two dogs that ended in a proposal. After throwing the idea around of eloping and steering clear of a traditional wedding, the couple finally decided to do what was ‘them’ and get married in the woods.
Both lovers of the outdoors and going on adventures, Jamie and Brett opted for a laid-back day amongst nature captured by Marisa Albrecht Photography.
“We didn’t tell anyone the day that we were getting married. Only our photographer and pastor knew. Afterwards, everyone was extremely happy for us. We even had some married friends tell us they wish they would have done it that way,” explains Jamie, who wore a Free People gown.
“Because we eloped I didn’t do the traditional dress shopping. I probably bought around 10 different white dresses online and tried them on at home. Between ordering and mailing back dresses it took about a month to decide. I needed a dress I could hike in and I wanted one that I could wear again.”
While these newlyweds had been together for some time, Jamie and Brett tell us that marriage is about being the best person you can be for one another and leave other brides and grooms-to-be with this bit of advice…
“Remember why you’re getting married. No one remembers what kind of food they ate at a wedding or what color the bridesmaids shoes were. Keep it simple and keep it you.”
