There’s so much to love about this wedding, friends, from the elegant blooms to the phenom venue styling, it’s a true 10/10 – and Georgia and Fitim think so, too! Although they tell us, there was almost one important piece missing… “The week before the wedding, my mother became very upset that there was not a cake, particularly because her friend’s daughter had just got married and had the most magnificent wedding cake by Marina Machado Cakes,” Georgia says. “So Mum called up Marina and basically begged and pleaded until Marina eventually agreed to make up a wedding cake despite being exceptionally busy.”
Um, talk about lucky, because this cake is a legit masterpiece (and tasted heckin’ incredible too, we’re told). One of our Hello May faves, Janneke Storm, did her usual breathtaking job with the snaps, leaving these lovebirds with some beautiful mems to cherish forever.
THE VIBE “There was no specific theme on the day, rather, I tried to collect all of my favourite vendors and then wanted a stylish and clean vibe.”
FAVE DETAILS “Having all our favourite people in one place. Given the 18 months that COVID had brought, we were so blessed to have had a wedding on a weekend where there were no restrictions. We had people fly from interstate and all be in one place without masks and with dancing. We feel so incredibly blessed. Another favourite detail was our cake. Despite a cake not being in our initial budget, we were overwhelmed with the breathtaking masterpiece that Marina Machado Cakes created and now think that every wedding should have a Marina-style cake.”
THE DRESS “The dress is from Sphere Bridal Gallery, which was such an easy process. It took me four boutiques and two try-ons at Sphere to find a dress. I quickly decided on a shape but the actual choice was more difficult than I anticipated.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “I loved getting ready with my bridesmaids. Just watching them and my mother have their hair and makeup done and be pampered was really special. I loved walking down the aisle and seeing Fitim welling with excitement.”
TALK ABOUT TRADITION “Fitim and his family are from Kosovo. In Albania/Kosovo there is a tradition/custom called besa. you give your besa to someone, which is like your word but stronger – it’s an unbreakable promise. Fitim had already given me his besa but on the wedding we referenced it in our vows and gave besa to our family and community as a promise to us. We also incorporated traditional dancing into the reception – it was meant to only be for a few songs but instead everyone loved it so much that we spent most of the reception dancing.”
WE WISH WE… “I planned the wedding while working 50 to 60+ hour weeks as a doctor. I wish I had occasionally slowed down and enjoyed the planning process. The day is over so quickly a lot of the fun is in the build-up.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer, Janneke Storm, was there all day and night and produced just the most amazing photos. Bloodwood Botanica created just the most spectacular flowers. I didn’t give her much guidance other than one photo that had some aspects I liked, and she took that and made my perfect bouquet and centre pieces. Marina Machado Cakes made the most fabulous cake, which became the centrepiece of our room (and was the best cake I have ever eaten and still dream about!). And our celebrant Erin Woodhall, who set the vibe for the whole event. Her calm and funny nature was invaluable on the day, from calming Fitim’s nerves when my stepdad joked that I had run away, to helping organise our guests for photos – not to mention her amazing celebrant duties.”
