After almost a decade-long dance, Emily and Michael are the picture of pure love and we think you’re going to enjoy this wedding, guys. We sure did. Also, the bride’s advice is to “breathe and drink lots of wine,” so we like her a lot. One of our go-to photographers (for not only weddings but fashion, too), Matt Godkin Photography, caught all the good things on camera and we chatted with the happy couple, of course, so scroll down for all the details…

THE VENUEWe knew it was the one when we drove down the beautiful stone driveway of The Old Church and saw the amazing, lush gardens. Lucey, the event coordinator, was so easy to work with. She was so kind and supportive through the whole wedding process. Nothing was too big an ask for her. The day wouldn’t have been so perfect if it wasn’t for her.”

THE VIBENo real theme – we wanted it to be bright and fun and for it to be a huge celebration of our love! We didn’t love the idea of having a super traditional wedding so that was reflected in our colour choices and decorations. I wanted to keep the ceremony colours more monochrome so the beautiful gardens and greenery could pop.”

FAVE DETAILSI loved the cake [by Mint Cake & Patisserie]. I love that it was non-traditional and fun – it really reflects our personalities. I could be biased as I designed them but I did love our invitations as well. They were bright and fun – an orange daisy die-cut card with copper foil typography. The flowers – Michael, my sister Kate and I went to the flower markets a day before the wedding a selected them all. My beautiful bridesmaids and my mum helped me arrange the florals into mismatched glass vases (sourced by my op-shop loving Aunty) of different sizes. And the fabric for the tables – each table had a different coloured linen.”

THE DRESS “After trying on about 15 dresses in bridal stores I came to know that I wasn’t after a traditional bridal gown. I wanted something a little bit different. I decided to have a little search online and found the perfect dress [by] Rasario [via Net-A-Porter], a Russian designer. There were no stockists in Australia so I had to take the risk and purchase it online. I loved it as soon as I tried it on. It was a slim fit, strapless, gown in Ivory silk with a cinched waist, trumpet hem. It wasn’t a full length gown which I loved and the bow at the back.”

CUTE CUSTOMWhen my cousin got married, my pop had fallen ill, so she asked him what shirt he would have worn to her wedding. She took the shirt and cut a piece to get sewn into her dress. I was then passed this shirt to do just the same.”

A WORD OF ADVICEStart planning ASAP and have fun with it! If people offer to help, take them up on it! Breathe and drink lots of wine.”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “I was really worried about how we would fit 14 bridesmaids and groomsmen into our wedding but I am SO glad had a crazy big bridal party! We are so lucky to have the most loving and supportive family and friends – we all had a lot of fun together on the day.”

STANDOUT VENDORMatt Godkin Photography and Jxsn Films were so incredible. Michael and I are both kind of awkward souls but they made us feel so comfortable and have fun!”
