Together for five years, Ellie and Jim decided to tie the knot after a whirlwind three-month engagement. “Jim’s mother was very unwell, so we decided to have an extremely short turn around from engagement to the wedding”, explains Ellie. The duo got together a crew of their very best buds and pulled off a super sweet home do. Hello May fave Nicola Lemon was there to capture the good times…

THE VENUE “We always knew we would get married at the Carrick Hill Estate attached to Jim’s mum’s house in Springfield, Adelaide. The estate has rolling grounds and gardens, and has a goat track which leads to Jim’s family home, where we walked to for the reception.”

THE VIBE “We wanted to have an unpretentious day, so no sit-down dinner and speeches over before sunset – we basically wanted a really nice house party.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “I loved the lighting. This suited the ‘backyard theme’ so well. We may have overdone the lighting, but it was beautiful when it got dark.”

DIY… “We spent hours putting together little gift bags for people to take home filled with lollies, Berocca and painkillers for the morning after and we decorated them with stickers we had ordered online but we forgot to hand them out. Much to the annoyance of Jim’s aunties who spent an afternoon putting the stickers on each bag…”

THE DRESS “I saw the dress when I was shopping one day and thought to myself, ‘If I were getting married, that’s what I’d like to wear’. Sure enough, I got engaged a month later. My mum and sister flew down a few weeks later to go wedding dress shopping and I said, ‘maybe let’s just have a quick look in Zimmerman’. It was the first dress I tried on and loved, so our wedding dress shopping day was over by 10am!”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “All the speeches were hilarious. El’s sisters worked through a dirty laundry list of what NOT to talk about in the speech and Jim’s brother was poignant as always.”

WE’RE GLAD WE…“got a whole cooked pig from a Vietnamese café in Adelaide’s western suburbs for late-night mini Bahn Mi and they were delicious.”
