Folks, we’ve got to come clean. We love Eliza and Shannon’s wedding at Rupert on Rupert… but it’s their labradoodle Moose (and the story of his pre-wedding glow-up) who captured our hearts! “Moose was our ring bearer for the ceremony. We took him into the groomer a few days before the wedding, to get a bath and touch-up, and they accidentally shaved him! The groomer called us crying and felt so terrible. She gave us a few free jackets and didn’t charge us for the service. We didn’t think it was very funny at the time, but it’s definitely funny now!” LOL.

Moose, ofc, looks totally dapper in the photos of the big day, taken by our friend Ashleigh Haase, who the brides describe as the “bee’s knees”. Scroll to see all the sweet snaps for yourself…

THE VENUE “I started following Rupert on Rupert on Instagram and loved all the weddings they posted. I knew it was going to be my first choice. I kept sending their posts to Shannon who eventually agreed to go and have a look. As soon as we saw the venue in person there was no going back. It had everything we needed and wanted.”

THE VIBE “I didn’t want the day to be cookie cutter. We wanted the day to be a true representation of us. I am a big lover of colour, so I knew I wanted saturated colours to contrast the greens at Rupert on Rupert. I also wanted it to be timeless, hence the Hollywood waves ha!”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Stick to your budget but also have a ‘loose budget’. Things like getting your hair coloured, getting your nails done etc is all daily upkeep, it doesn’t need to go on the budget. Let those things slide otherwise you’ll be making cuts on other things. Do what you want to do – don’t feel like you have to fit a box, you are spending all this money, don’t you want your guests leaving and talking about the day/night and how much it reflected you as a couple?”

FAVE DETAILS “Shannon wasn’t keen on the idea of balloons as a garland instead of flowers. I had a lot of pressure on me to deliver and boy was I happy I listened to my gut. The pop of colour and just being a little different turned out amazingly! Guests got photos in front of it all night.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “Eliza surprised me and got out her guitar and played/sang to me in front of everyone! Along with her best friend, Nahanni, and her brother, Adrian, they sang an acoustic version of Dreams by The Cranberries.”

This Melbourne wedding from the print archives first appeared in the Real Wedding Special Vol 8. Wanna see a bunch more epic weddings at Rupert on Rupert and get in touch with the iconic Victorian venue? Ofc you do! Head here.
