Ready for a Thursday morning heart melt? Ava knew she wanted to propose to Cushla after only a month together. Despite this sweet sentiment she played it cool for another two years and proposed to Cushla from the comfort of their villa during a trip to Bali. The gals enlisted wonder woman Beck Rocchi Photography, as well as two of our fave jewelry brands, Grew & Co and Cushla Whiting, to make their day as heart-warming as their story. Scroll down for some handy advice and snaps galore…

THE VIBE “We really wanted a small and intimate wedding with more of a dinner party vibe for the reception. I was put in charge of styling and planning (Ava would have been quite happy getting married on the beach in her board shorts, eating fish & chips wrapped in newspaper). I wanted a romantic setting with LOTS of beautiful flowers and peachy/pink tones that would work with both my hair and dress”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “I loved my hair! Being a hairdresser, I was nervous having someone else style my hair. I had a very clear picture of what I wanted and Jessie gave me my absolute dream hair!”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “My favourite moment was when our ten-year-old son Ethan read a beautiful poem that he wrote to start the ceremony.”

LITTLE LOL“One day, after I had bought my dress, Ava and I were flicking through an issue of Hello May magazine and she was showing me dresses she liked and didn’t like. When we saw mine, I didn’t say anything and she said she really didn’t like it! I kept it anyway because I loved it so much and I hoped she would like it on me which luckily she really did!”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Book your venue well in advance. Set a realistic budget and know what your priorities are. If you are inviting kids be sure to invest in babysitters! It allows everyone to enjoy the day and also the kids have heaps of fun!”

WE’RE GLAD WE “Invested in an incredible photographer! Beck was awesome! She made us and our guests feel at ease and she was really fun! Even before meeting her, I felt like we could be friends, she’s super chilled and lovely. The photos were mind-blowingly good! Definitely exceeded our expectations!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our beautiful friend Edwina Lye who generously offered to make Ava’s suit as our wedding gift, which was kept secret from me until the day of the wedding. I was STOKED! She looked HOT!”

Cushla & Ava’s big day was originally published in Issue 27 of Hello May magazine.
