Totally smitten with Caitlin and Alex’s intimate elopement in Brisbane. Sweet, simple, and chic-AF with the bride in a fun Selkie mini and the groom in M.J. Bale.
These Cairns-based high school sweethearts told us that they’d grown fond of the idea of “eloping in secret and surprising everyone with the news after,” and if you’ve been considering something similar, you’ve got Caitlin and Alex’s full support. “I am the biggest advocate for eloping,” the bride shares. “Don’t get me wrong, I love big weddings, but planning our intimate elopement was enough stress for me. We put our focus into the key elements and tried not to stress the little stuff.”

THE VENUE “We knew pretty early on we wanted to get married at the registry. Our Court House here in Cairns is very basic and doesn’t have much to offer in terms of weddings. We have always loved Brisbane city and we frequently visited from Cairns. The venue at the city registry is lovely, and the whole process was pretty easy. Everything was organised online or over the phone, so we only had to fly down once before we got married to finalise everything.”
THE VIBE “I have always loved the idea of a Vegas-style wedding, Elvis vibes and all. I saw a content creator that I follow eloped in Vegas in 2022 (@luisapiou on IG) and I fell in love with the styling of it. Vegas was a bit out of our reach, but the elements of a party-style elopement is what our look was based off.”
THE DRESS “I have always loved Selkie dresses. I think I first discovered the brand when I was in grade 10. Once I started piecing together a vision board, I knew exactly where to get what I was looking for: a short, tulle dress with puffy sleeves. I bought it straight away for less than $400. My friends and family all agreed it was ‘very me.’”
THE SUIT “Having minimal choices in Cairns, we took the chance when we came to Brisbane two months before our elopement to look around for suits. As we were looking for something quite simple, it didn’t take long to find the one. The ladies at M.J. Bale were amazing and tailored the jacket and pants the very next day as we had to fly home.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “After the ceremony and the photos, Alex, myself and our two witnesses went for a late lunch, got changed into something slightly more casual (although still keeping our black and white themes) and went for drinks. We have all been friends for a very long time, so after the day had slowed down and the nerves had subsided, it was so nice to take a moment, reflect on the day, and belly laugh with two people we hold very dearly to us.”
STANDOUT VENDOR “Being from Cairns, we had to organise most of our vendors online. We connected with our photographer, Georgia, less than a few months before our elopement. She gave us advice for other vendors/locations for the day. I fell in love with her work. I showed her a few of my favourite weddings she had done and left the creative direction up to her. She made us feel so comfortable; the whole day was so casual and in the moment, and we are still getting compliments on our photos nearly a year later.”
