Following a romantic proposal in Lake Como, Italy, Annabel and Trent returned to Melbourne to find the perfect venue (first featured in issue 11). £We wanted an urban Melbourne wedding, with an industrial, modern feel to it,— says Annabel, who knew their search was over the second they saw Two Ton Max, an industrial warehouse located bang in the centre of the city. £We loved the industrial beams and the crane gave it so much character. The layout was perfect for what we wanted as well.—

On a mission to create an informal, fun atmosphere Annabel spent the next 12 months sourcing a handful of laid-back vendors including Katie Harmsworth Photography and Sugar Bee Flowers and crafting a tonne of DIY decorations. £I did quite a few DIY projects for our wedding!— she says, admitting she may have bitten off more than she could chew. £I made the confetti for our confetti bar (yes, that’s right, I painstakingly hand pressed each piece of confetti with a giant hole punch?). This was more cost effective than buying the giant one inch pieces of confetti, but if I had my time again, I would just buy it next time!—

She also made their wedding cake, cookies and signs; bought and painted the pastel coloured chairs, did her own hair and makeup and made enough espresso martinis for all their guests. £I can’t tell you how long it takes to make 30 litres of espresso martinis, but even with all hands on deck, it was a big job!— It may have been backbreaking work but it made their day personal and fun and, as Annabel says, £it was worth it on the night.—

The most rewarding part of the wedding planning process for her, however, was having her dress custom made by local designer Georgia Young Couture who she stumbled upon via (wait for it) Instagram! £I have to say my most favourite detail of the day was my dress! Going through the whole process of having it made, watching it come together, and seeing it for the first time in its entirety the week before the wedding was such a fun and suspenseful experience. Georgia created everything I wanted, and I was just so excited to finally wear it.—

On the day, everything that’d gone on behind the scenes paid off. The couple enjoyed a first look’ before making their way to the ceremony and, later, guests danced the night away beneath a sky of hanging lights to an epic playlist. £We chose heaps old school 90’s music and hip hop, which our guests loved. This included a very drunken rendition of Gangsta’s Paradise’ at the end of the night which our friends enjoyed so much that they have decided for every wedding from now this must be a tradition.—
