THE VENUE “Andrew and I had spent many weekends driving around Sydney and the Hunter region looking for the perfect venue for our wedding. Everywhere we visited was, of course, beautiful, but nothing really jumped out at us. A friend of the family mentioned Hopewood House to us and we decided it would be a good idea to see a few venues in the Southern Highlands. As soon as we arrived at Hopewood House we knew it was absolutely perfect. I couldn’t have imagined a more spectacular, beautiful and romantic place to be married. The gardens are breathtaking, there were peacocks walking around and the main house is incredibly beautiful. We met the owner Janet Storrier and she showed us around the property. Every room was beautifully immaculate and filled with incredible artworks by John Olsen and Tim Storrier. Being an artist myself that was really special for me. Janet put us both at ease and was so lovely and accommodating. We left Hopewood that day knowing we had found the venue and stopped looking after that. I cannot recommend Hopewood House enough.”
THE VIBE “The styling was initially influenced by the incredibly beautiful gardens of Hopewood House. I wanted to create a soft, elegant and ethereal aesthetic for the day. Something unique and reminiscent of the wild creations on the Rodarte bridal runway crossed with the whimsy of a midsummer night’s dream. The floral colour palette was a mix of pale pinks, apricot and rich whites with pink and white baby’s breath scattered throughout. I wanted the florals to be the centrepiece of the reception, so the table styling was intentionally kept minimal.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Tess from Little Duck Calligraphy did the most beautiful job on all of our signage and wedding invites. The invites were very important to me as they set the tone for the wedding and give guests a small insight into what is to come. We went with a blush pink handmade paper for the details card and white handmade paper tied together with silk ribbon and a custom A&A wax stamp for the other elements. Tess created bespoke illustrations for our invitations and incorporated them into the design. All invites were then sent in blush pink envelopes where Tess addressed each invitation individually in her beautiful calligraphy style writing.”
THE DRESS “It was really important for me to find something unique, elegant, comfortable and light and I looked for a long time to find something special. I was in Berlin travelling with Andrew and we met up with my parents for a few days. I booked into one bridal boutique while we were there to see if anything caught my eye. As soon as we walked into Kaviar Gauche I was drawn to my dress and knew it was the one I had been searching for. It was light, ethereal and like nothing I had come across before.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “All of our vendors were absolutely incredible! Hopewood House was amazing throughout the whole process and helped me every step of the way. Our florist Maddy from Ellebore was also a huge support. She was always available to answer questions and offer advice when I was nervous about details. On the day she was a joy to have around and her flowers were magnificent. I was completely blown away by how she made our vision come to life, I can’t recommend her enough. Our photographer Jimmy Raper was also an absolute stand out. He was so helpful in the lead-up and such a calming and fun presence on the day. I was really nervous about wedding photography but he made the whole process so relaxed and fun. His unique and atmospheric photography style was what led me to him and the final results were just magic.”
