Together for “10 magical years”, these two grooms made sure that the wait was worth it when it came to their big day. Gathering together a whole host of HM vendors, this was one heck of a party. Design Patrol Films took care of cinematography whilst Ashdown & Bee styled something special. Tillee Music went above and beyond even writing an original song for these lovers to walk down the aisle to. Romantic as heck! Finally, one of our ultimate fave photographers, the sweet Scott Surplice was there to capture every single moment. Scroll down for the goods…

THE VENUE “We are both beach and water babies and love Sydney harbour, so we knew we wanted somewhere by the harbour. In our research, we came across Sergeants Mess and we both fell in love with the venue. It was the first venue we visited and we were blown away! That day, at our first visit of any venue, we locked in a date and threw a deposit down – we knew this was the venue for our special day.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “The flowers were a highlight. Seeing what Aleksandra and her team were able to pull off was breath-taking. We had followed Alex on Instagram for a while, so knew she was capable of some magical stuff, but seeing the flowers on the day was something else, I’ve never seen anything like it. The floral ‘stalactite’ sculptures were the real feature pieces hanging above the dancefloor which complimented the oasis’ ‘stalagmites’ on each table. We wanted something dramatic, with movement and I think they made a great photo opportunity too. She also made multiple boutonnieres for each groom, so we could have little ‘costume changes’ throughout the event, which was a bit of fun.”

THE SUITS “Both of our suits came from the fabulous designer Tom Ford. As a couple, we hadn’t dreamt too much of what our wedding was going to be like, but we both had dreamt of getting married in custom Tom Ford. Again, we didn’t spend too much time looking at options, as we knew as soon as we popped on that James Bond tuxedo, we were in heaven! It was like the moment in The Devil Wears Prada where Emily says to Andy “You sold your soul to the devil when you put on your first pair of Jimmy Choos, I saw it.” As soon as those tuxes were on our shoulders, we knew they were the ones.”

TALK ABOUT TRADITION “Being a same-sex wedding, we had the flexibility of playing with traditional roles. Firstly, we had our entire immediate family walk down the aisle (in replacement of traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen). This was a great way to highlight the importance of our family on our special day. We also made a cool change to have our mothers give us away on the day. Our mothers both had strong influences on us as we grew up and are both the matriarchs of the family – this little moment felt absolutely right for our day. Our fathers also acted as our witnesses, signing our marriage certificate which was a nice way to round out the formalities.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer, Scott Surplice was truly amazing! On the day, we were understandably nervous, but Scott had a way of making us feel comfortable and relaxed. This is a truly special quality. Then there were the photos – what Scott has been able to capture was phenomenal. At 6 am the next day, Scott took the time to share the breath-taking firework picture with us and understandably, we were in tears! The moments he captured will literally stay with us forever. This was all done seemingly in secret. We have had so many guests indicate that they can’t even remember seeing a photographer on the day – which for us was important. There’s nothing worse than being at a wedding as a guest and having your view blocked by a photographer or to miss the moment because you were distracted by a camera. What Scott produced in ‘secret’ was nothing short of magic.”
