Nothing brings us more joy than serving you your daily dose of idyllic ‘I do’s. But what we don’t always get to share is the wedding-day prelude. We’re referring to the proposal, of course, which, dare we say, is sometimes just as magical as the big day itself!

So today we’ve rounded up half a dozen of our favourite HM proposal stories. There are wholesome and cosy at-home moments, there’s luxury escapes-turned-engagement moons, and there’s proposals that went a liiiittle rogue (as the best laid plans sometimes do) but proved perfect all the same.

Looking to get down on one knee soon? Well, you’ve come to the right place for inspo (*gestures below*). When you’re done, we highly recommend looking to these jewellers for your engagement bling/wedding bands/other sparkly bits. Then meet more legendary lovebirds here who aren’t afraid to do this whole wedding thing their own way.

GG & Zaac

Readers of our Real Wedding Special Volume 10 will recognise Zaac and GG’s playful Melbourne nuptials. But what you might not know is that Zaac actually popped the question in Italy with an interim ring made of pasta. “I made a couple of prototypes with my brothers and my Dad,” Zaac told us. “We tried making one out of spaghetti but found rigatoni was perfect, so we half-boiled it and cut it into a ring. I ended up carrying around the ring for the whole holiday, waiting for the right moment and proposed on the island of Ischia on our last few days. We then went back to Rome and chose the actual ring together.”

Angie & Will

Will and Angie made it offish in Ibiza, and oh boy, wasn’t it a beauty?! True to form, their proposal was equally as dreamy. “We went out on a private boat tour with close friends of ours and spent a fabulous time sun-baking and swimming,” Angie shared. “Little did I know at that time that Will was going to propose later that evening. He had made a reservation at one of our all-time favourite restaurants – Caesar Augustus – a hidden gem of Capri and a luxury hotel. Will proposed during the sunset overlooking a private cliff. It was magical.”

Abbey & Josh

Much like their Berry, NSW wedding, Abbey and Josh’s proposal couldn’t have been more sweet’n’sentimental. The duo spent a date day selecting the engagement ring together and decided that their upcoming trip to New Zealand would be the perfect time to co-propose to each other with a series of heartfelt love letters. “We chose eight specific questions for each of us to respond to in a letter that we would read to each other,” they explained. “It was the most perfect, intentional and romantic joint proposal, and simply us!”

Aaron & Nao

Green flags galore in Aaron’s proposal to now-wife Nao, which went down at their shared abode on “just a regular Friday evening.” “As I opened the door, there was a tape across the hallway set up just like our favourite Netflix series, Alice in Borderland,” Nao shared. “[Aaron] had set up over 100 photos from our experiences and trips on the walls of our hallway and asked me to read the notes on each one. At the end of the hallway, in a room filled with candles and flowers, Aaron was waiting in a suit, ready to propose.” Nawwww! Catch A&N’s Gold Coast Hinterland ‘I do’s.

Pia & Suny

A surprise Phillip Island getaway with ocean views, scenic strolls, and one big question. That’s how Suny planned to propose. But alas, when the entire island lost power, instead of a romantic vineyard dinner, the pair spent the evening in the hotel room eating pizza and watching The Mandalorian. “I loved it and was a bit clueless as to why Suny was so upset,” Pia admits. “The next morning, he set up breakfast on our balcony over the ocean and hid the ring in an avocado. I almost ate the ring, and then when Suny used the avocado as a ring box to propose, I was laughing so much I forgot to say yes. It was the most special, wonderful weekend.” Relive the happy couple’s cool, captivating and eco-conscious Melbourne day here.

Mel & Nic

The one where Nic and Mel got engaged will be a tough Christmas to beat. It all happened as the lovebirds, with their beautiful newborn in tow, exchanged gifts at home under the shade of a palm tree (the same palm tree that would later backdrop their ceremony!) “Nic had the ring hidden in between some beautiful flowers and said ‘Baby, we’re getting hitched!’ I was definitely not expecting it was completely overjoyed,” Mel told us. “It was such a good day to propose, as we saw all of our family for Christmas and could share the news.”
