After telling us that their engagement included pizza (oh, and flowers and a ring), we were sure that Josie and Lucas would be ultra cool. Recently married on the Sunshine Coast, this couple’s easy-going ethos was ever-present throughout their day, telling us that marriage, for them, is about caring, supporting and loving one another no matter what. “Marriage also means that when you come home after you have been out partying and dancing with you friends and you have makeup all over your face, he still tells you that he loves you and that you look beautiful. And he makes you a toastie.”

Despite having just moved to Sydney, this daring duo opted for a do-it-yourself wedding…pretty ballsy if you ask us! “We thought, hey, why don’t we give DIY a go? Organising everything ourselves and living interstate at the time meant that the lead up to the wedding got a little hectic but now we just look back and laugh. It’s all part of the adventure,” the newlyweds tell us, adding that an outdoor wedding (with photos by the amazing Janneke Storm) was always at the top of their wish list.

“It was actually the best man who suggested we use his mum’s property. As soon as we saw it we fell in love and we knew we wanted to incorporate as much of the grounds as possible. A beautiful barn set amongst the rainforest with an amazingly lush grass paddock for the ceremony, a camping area for our friends, we couldn’t have dream we would find such a perfect place,” says Josie, who describes the day as “colourful, relaxed and fun”.

As far as favourite details go, Josie and Lucas (understandably) say it’s hard to pick just one. “…but I think we could both agree that Ammon, a bridesmaid’s boyfriend, letting off a huge confetti cannon just as we kissed was pretty amazing. Kissing your lover then being showered in confetti and just looking out and seeing everyone clapping and laughing and cheering is something we’ll never forget.”

Wondering where Josie got that gosh darn gorgeous Watters gown from? She says that finding the perfect dress is the part every girl dreams of, and when you find it (much like with true love), you just know. “After a few months of searching, I met Alex from Hope X Page. What a woman! I told the girls what I was after we had so much fun trying on different styles of dresses. Then she pulled out this lacey number and there it was! It felt and fit perfect! The girls at Hope X Page really make you feel special and it was so great to share the experience with them,” the bride raves, admitting that pinpointing the best part of the day is nearly impossible.

“There’s just too many. From waking up knowing you are about to marry your best friend and spend the rest of your lives together to walking down the aisle and seeing each other’s faces. But there’s one memory we both share that we loved, the best man’s speech. Willy managed to bring the whole party together through a speech that was both extremely funny and heartfelt at the same time. It was just another one of those things that happened on the day that you can’t really plan for but that you’ll remember always.”
