One morning as Soph and Sam were on the hunt for the perfect croissant (at the request of Soph’s dad), the couple were dismayed to discover the bakery they had been searching for was closed. In an effort to not turn up empty handed, Soph wandered up the street to Dust Temple, a rather incredible space that not only had their dream croissants – but also, to Soph’s delight, hosted weddings!

“I made Sam park the car and had him take a look. We both were sold and didn’t look anywhere else.” Talk about meant to be!

With the pair spending a short five month engagement, and even shorter wedding planning time, it was no easy feat pulling together what turned out to be an epic, festive day. Soph explained that with such a short timeframe, many boutiques were unwilling to help her find the perfect dress, that was of course, until she stepped into Karen Willis Holmes. “I was made to feel comfortable and welcome from the very beginning (champagne in hand too)…The attendants there were so helpful and my sister and I were able to put a top from one dress on a skirt of the other to create my prefect dress.”

The couple agreed their day was less about a theme and more about bringing their families together and enjoying the festivities; as Soph’s father sadly passed away shortly before the wedding. Throughout the details of their day Soph incorporated touching elements that celebrated her father, including a tier of carrot cake – “my dad’s favourite,” and using ‘You are the Sunshine of my Life’ by Stevie Wonder, “which my dad wanted to be our father daughter dance.”

When it came to picking their key vendors, Soph admits she knew from the get go who she wanted. “I contacted The White Tree and they were having a showing in Sydney the next day, so it was fate, booked them after seeing them play the following day…Van Middleton I had been following on Instagram for a looooonnnnnggggg time. When we met Van, he made us feel so comfortable and was easy to get along with.”

Other vendors of note included Hampton Event Hire and Something for Catering who not only provided exceptional services, but as Soph mentioned were incredibly helpful and responsive in preparing with short notice.
