Following a romantic proposal which took place in Japan, Jenny and Ben, first seen in Issue 11, returned to Sydney to tie the knot at Clarkes Point Reserve surrounded by 200 of their closest friends and family, many of whom had come from the other side of Earth.
£We are really glad we had our ceremony outside in Clarkes Point Reserve so our overseas guests could enjoy a very Australian ceremony. We had the sun setting over the Parramatta River with the Harbour Bridge in the background,” says Jenny, who’d probably be the first to admit it doesn’t get more Australian than that!
Deciding their sanity was more important than saving money, Jenny kept their DIY decorations to a minimum and hired a handful of vendors including florist Mikarla Bauer, celebrant All We Need Is Love, stylist Emily Sarks of Divine Events and photographer Lara Hotz to help lighten the load.
£It all started with one photo of some beautiful macrame hangers with colourful flowers. From there the whole theme was dreamt up by Emily. She just got exactly what we wanted and brought it all to life, says Jenny, adding that the confetti coloured bouquets, hanging greenery and succulent centrepieces were her favourite details.
Of course there was also their striking stationery, giant sized balloons and Jenny’s gorgeous lace gown. £I found my dress at Lover. I went on a lunch break with one of my bridesmaids and it was the first dress I tried on? It was only about one to two months into the engagement but I knew I had to get it!
It was the perfect choice for their relaxed, sit-down reception held at Hunters Hill Sailing Club – a space with amazing water views that allowed them to bring their own food, decorations, alcohol and dessert. It was here that Jenny and Ben pulled off their choreographed first dance and where Jenny’s father delivered his speech.
£Jenny’s eccentric dad did a 30 minute speech where he spoke about the actual speech for the first 25 minutes! He did not want to get off the stage? says Ben of the man who raised his lovely wife – a rather wise woman whose advice is to £stay chill, don’t overthink things and don’t try to take on too much in the days leading up to the wedding. Amen to that!
