This fun-loving couple met eight years ago, at one of our fave festivals from back in the day, Big Day Out, and we like them already. They then got engaged on a surprise birthday trip to Byron Bay, while horse riding, where a fake cramp played the perfect part in Andrew’s proposal. Fast-forward to their big day and not only did the stunning bride go for a pink dress, but the couple used a long list of HM directory vendors to bring it all together. From photographer, Cassandra Ladru, to cinematographer, GoldBear Wedding Films, there was also The White Tree on entertainment, The Future Mrs on hair and makeup and the bridal party in personalised pj’s from Jasmine & Will. Phew! We told you it was a long list! Now do yourself a favour and scroll down for the perfect pics and nitty-gritty details…
THE VENUE “Andrew proposing in Byron, along with it being a very special location for my family, made it a no brainer. We saw a few venues with our wedding planner, Kiera (of Creative Weddings Byron Bay) but we turned up to Earth House and just fell in love! The structure of the building has so much character, paired with the view and the beautiful tree makes it so romantic.”
THE THEME “We wanted the wedding to feel modern and more editorial than traditional. We used the same font throughout the whole wedding, and copper, black and neutral tones in the signage and table setting. With the flowers (by The French Petal) we wanted earthy tones to match the venue, so kept to whites and greens with an olive twig on each plate and created a romantic feel with candles everywhere. I hired all the candles available from the hire companies in Byron, so I had to start sourcing my own. I ended up with 160 in around eight different sizes and we used each and everyone on the day.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “I loved how well the colours combined of the bridal party. It was different and exactly the elegant, edgy look we were going for. I loved the table settings. The vintage glass wear, copper cutlery, menu to one side and the copper candle wedding favour created the perfect look.”
THE DRESS “I really wanted to wear something no one else had, so locked in a custom Jane Hill design a year out from the wedding. Then I saw a beautiful blush dress on the designer’s Instagram five months out from the wedding and I was in love. I wanted a whole new dress! Jen (the Creative Director) was calm, professional and accommodating. We kept the same silhouette, but we changed the colour to blush and beaded it from top to bottom. The detail was breathtaking and gave me the editorial edge I wanted, matching the vibe and styling of the rest of the wedding.”
LITTLE LOL “Andrew is obsessed with the Moto GP (bike racing) and his two best men did their speech as a race call. The detail was epic! One started off as the pit reporter (outside on the balcony) and the other up in the commentary box (at the front). They were even wearing headsets like commentators!”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Invest in a wedding planner – Kiera from Creative Weddings Byron Bay was simply amazing and I couldn’t have done the planning or the day without her. Have your hair and makeup artist on hand, trial all the important stuff and try not to take things to heart.”
WE’RE GLAD WE “Broke up the speeches- we had the two fathers speak during canapés and the rest in the reception. Also, that we put on a party the next day. The venue was epic!”
STANDOUT VENDORS “I can’t speak highly enough of Kiera our wedding coordinator, she was perfection. Nothing was too big a request and she was so organised. I was also in love with Cassandra Ladru’s work from the moment I saw it. After the pre-wedding shoot with her, it was clear how talented she was and we felt very comfortable with her. Also, the food was epic! Byron Bay Weddings owned by Che Devlin nailed every dish.”
