We are strong believers that like attracts like. So we weren’t surprised when Simone and Jono’s wedding photographer Shane Shepherd said, “I wanted to share their wedding because I admired how genuine and simple it all really was. Simone and Joni knew who and what mattered to them…” because Mr. Shepherd himself is one of the most genuine and kind humans we know (not to mention talented!).
Simone and Jono’s day was less about DIY and more about determining what they’d done with their keys. Jono tells us, “we lost the keys to our honeymoon suite at Rae’s on Wategoes and spent at least three hours locked out of our room. We had a bottle of champagne but were exhausted and Simone fell asleep on the floor. We only lived around the corner but we were determined not to go home! It was ridiculous.”
On the other hand, there were a few things that went better than expected. One of their clever friends designed all of their stationery while Simone’s mum designed and made her dress from old French Chantilly lace. “She worked for many months. She sewed on each of the beads by hand and was incredibly patient”, says Simone, who was overjoyed by the day her and Jono had managed to create. “We picked a country venue that we loved and let it speak for itself. The community of Federal actually owns the (deconstructed) church and hall and the venue is natural and steeped in community history.”
