Every Thursday we share a fave wedding from the print archives, and this one’s a goodie, guys! Julz, an event planner herself, pulled out all the stops when it came to her wedding with James, opting to host their nuptials at one of our all-time favourite Melbourne venues, The Wool Mill (planned and styled by the legends at Nudo). But that’s not all, folks, the couple nabbed Nick Skinner Photography and dressed their bridal party in Bec + Bridge. Moral of the story? Listen up, because these two know what’s up! Scroll down for more…

THE VENUE “I knew we needed a blank canvas to bring the vision we had to life. It also needed to be a big space to cater to our guest list. We looked high and low for an empty warehouse-style venue in Melbourne but nothing met the brief. Within seconds of walking into The Wool Mill, we knew we found the right place – we could set up a ceremony space, cocktail lounge, reception/party arena, speakeasy bar and food truck park all in the one venue. Added bonuses were that we could make it our wedding, without having to plan it ourselves. The Wool Mill is related to Nudo who offer planning and management services as part of the venue hire.”

THE VIBE “We are both very energetic people who thrive with our loved ones around us; so we knew that the enjoyment of our loved ones was key to the day. But on our terms: ‘Dark romance with a touch of neon’ defined the aesthetic. ‘Party party party’ defined… well… the party! Seeing people of all ages refusing to leave the d floor proved we got it right.”

FAVE DEETS “Seeing our ‘nightclub’ come alive with a neon tube lighting installation that moved up and down with the beat of the music. As an event designer, I know that events are a fiet to pull off that cannot be done unless working as a team – our team was EPIC! Every detail was executed perfectly. We couldn’t thank our vendors or event partners enough!”

MEMORABLE MOMENT There are so many standout moments that make the whole day worthy of a repeat every year, for forever. But I was particularly grateful for the window of time between being ready to leave and getting into the car. I was at my childhood home (known as the Callegari party house) with my parents, Nonna and bridesmaids and an impromptu dance party broke out in the kitchen! Everyone dressed and ready to go in the very best of ways. This was poignant because it grounded us all and set us up for the best day ahead.”

FAVE DEETS “Our ceremony backdrop was very special – an installation of black Davey cubes, neon battens, dark florals that housed a custom neon sign of a pinky promise that now sits on our wall at home above our bar – our love story that’s come full circle from bar to bar! Seeing our “nightclub” come alive with a neon tube lighting installation that moved up and down with the beat of the music.”

STANDOUT VENDOR “Sam from Oglio Loro. He made me feel comfortable, fierce, sexy and important, listening diligently and also conversing with Mum and Nonna in Italian; making sure they were heard. He understood the traditions of Italian life but didn’t mind pushing the boundaries like I do!

A WORD OF ADVICE “Just have fun. Don’t stress or follow a run sheet and watch every little thing on the day. Just enjoy because it’s all a celebration and let the good times roll!”
