Today, folks, we’d like to introduce you to Elise and Tom, a couple who never planned on having a theme for their wedding – but with Canberra putting on quite a show with all those golden, red and burnt-orange leaves, the magical season became their inspo. “The city always puts on a show with the foliage, so we took inspiration and incorporated a few autumn vibes in our colour palette.”
As if wedding planning isn’t intense enough, these folks decided to throw in buying a house AND getting a new puppy at the same time! “The house settlement was even the same day as the wedding – at 4pm we were getting married, at 4.30pm, we owned a house!”
Everything about this wedding says understated elegance, from the heavenly florals (courtesy of Moxom and Whitney) to the bride’s chic, simple updo (we see you, Emi Styles Hair!). Top-notch photog Lauren Campbell captured all the juicy goodness of the day’s celebrations – and as you can see, they’re a treat!
THE VENUE “We were looking for a low-fuss, low-key wedding that met our priorities – good food, excellent drinks and a dance floor. and Parlour ticked all these boxes while also being close to the city and a very cool space.”
FAVE DETAILS “We loved Tom’s velvet suit jacket by Politix as a really fun pop of colour, and the incredible flower pillar that the Moxom and Whitney team absolutely delivered under our incredibly vague guidance of ‘kind of autumn vibes, but do whatever, I trust you!’”
DIY “The welcome sign was a DIY – I bought some perspex and paint from Bunnings and did my best imitation of those signs you see on Pinterest!”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “The whole day was so fun, though we both kept saying we couldn’t wait for the ceremony to be over (thanks to all the stress and planning leading up to that moment). But our celebrant, Shannon O’Heir, did such an amazing job putting us at ease. Everyone always tells you how you never see each other after the ceremony and you never get to eat at your own wedding. But we had so much fun that we often say that it felt like we were guests at someone else’s wedding! There was a wonderful moment right at the end of the night where the DJ, Mobydisc, insisted we choose the last song of the night – we chose Come On Elieen – and all our friends and family surrounded us as we danced together, all yelling the lyrics.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “The best advice we got was to essentially ignore what you feel are expectations (be that from family/friends or tradition) and do whatever you want to do. Knowing that you actually have complete control over your wedding is so freeing.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our celebrant, Shannon O’Heir, was so fun, engaging and professional. Our incredible photographer, Lauren Campbell, was super flexible with our need to get photos done with our pups and who sent us some really lovely prints after the wedding. The magicians at Moxom and Whitney took our super-vague guidance and produced something so incredible. And our venue Parlour where the vibes were immaculate!”
