We’re mere days out from Christmas, friends, so we thought we’d get the party started a little early over here at HM with our Best of 2021 Wedding Cakes post. Yep, the best of the best, the crème de la crème! If you’re currently planning a wedding, this beaut post is an essential read.

Like always, we’ve trawled through our gram feed, our Pinterest boards and our blog to bring you the most loved cakes of the year – as voted by you! And let us say, we’re LOVING the extra-as-anything vibes you guys are putting down. We’re also super pleased that a few of our all-time faves have made the list, including NZ-based Sage & Grace, SA Wonder Woman The Bake Space, Sydney bakers Stacy Brewer Cakes and Willow & George, and Victorian legends Miss Ladybird Cakes and Zephyr & Bloom. You guys have got superb taste.

Now, without further ado, prepare those bellies because what you’re about to see may leave you a little on the hungry side…

SARAH DE BURG, NSW
There’s a reason the Victoria sponge has remained a popular afternoon tea choice with the masses for well over a century now, it being so delish and all. Laura & Mitch opted for this classic bake, laced in lemon curd, for their big day and luckily their mate Sarah was on hand to sort it. Doused in florals, we trust this beauty tasted as good as it looked. If you’re keen on this pair’s style (the theme for their day was disco cowboy bush doof) you can check out the rest of their day here. Heart Party’s snaps are a real treat so do check em’ out.

STACY BREWER CAKES, NSW
Stacy Brewer nails each and every bake and her double-tiered creation for Matthew & Andrew’s Sydney wedding is no exception. A lover of fresh blooms, Stacy always decks her cakes out with a selection of striking flowers. Catch a bunch of her past creations here. If you’re all about this cool, coastal palette then we recommend popping on over here to check out the lad’s full day, courtesy of rad Sydney photographers Salt Atelier.

PEACHES & CREAM CUSTOM CAKE STUDIO, SA
When it comes to cakes, we support ‘the more the merrier ethos’. So do Alicia and Dylan who celebrated with a croquembouche tower by Peaches & Cream Custom Cake Studio AND a multi-tiered vanilla bean cake from one of our fave Adelaide bakers, The Bake Space (psst – you can catch more of The Bake Space’s scrummy confections here). As for Alicia & Dylan’s big day, we recommend taking a peek at the whole shebang here via Jessica Mary Photography’s gorge snaps.

HANSEL AND GRETEL CAKES, QLD
Give us a Marie Antoinette-inspired cake any day of the week. We’re smitten with this trend that ticks the fun box every time. There’s something about those cherries, too, that satisfies our souls. Tracey & Dom, the lucky couple who indulged in this orange and poppyseed creation, actually gave their cake makers, Hansel and Gretel Cakes, complete creative control – a fab call. You can catch more snaps from this day, courtesy of Fontaine Photo, right here.

ZEPHYR & BLOOM, VIC
Terri & Ben’s custom Zephyr & Bloom creation embodies all the things we love in a cake – texture, oodles of topping and big hunks of honeycomb. The people responsible? Melbourne bakers Zephyr & Bloom. Utterly bespoke, they’re big fans of statement toppings from fresh flowers and seasonal fruits to dramatic wafer paper sails and gold leaf. Catch more of their goodies here. You guys showed this snap from Ali Bailey a lotta love! For more of Terri & Ben’s rustic “family dinner” themed day you can pop on over here.

MISS LADY BIRD CAKES, VIC
Two of life’s greatest gifts combined – lamington and wedding cake. Snagging a place in our top cakes of the year post for the fourth year in a row, Miss Ladybird Cakes never fail to impress us (as does their extensive flavour list). Dom & Drew were sure to snag these Melbourne-based legends for their epic day and were absolutely stoked with the results. Top marks for their handmade kiwi bride, koala groom and fur baby pug cake toppers! You can check out more from Dom & Drew’s wedding, as captured by She Takes Pictures He Makes Films, here.

SAGE & GRACE, NZ
This beauty (snapped by Alexandra Weddings) arrived on the HM blog by way of our Top 15 Cake Makers To Follow On Instagram post and it would simply be remiss of us not to include it here. Taking a super wholesome approach to cake making, head baker, Sarah, only uses the most quality ingredients and offers bakes to suit an extensive range of dietaries. Fancy one for yourself? You can catch more Sage & Grace goodness right here.

WILLOW & GEORGE, NSW
If you’re lucky enough to be ordering a cake from Willow & George, we urge you to make like Claire & Jonno and snag not one but THREE of these custom beauties (captured here by HM fave Stories By Ash). Using vintage recipes and locally sourced ingredients Willow & George are one of our faves in the biz (you can catch more from these South Coast bakers here). We loved Claire & Jonno’s garden party/backyard wedding so much that we published it in Issue 32 of Hello May mag (now sold out but you can grab our current issue here) so if you haven’t checked it out, best hop to it.

PETAL & PEACH, QLD
As if this epic Petal & Peach number from Alex & Koby’s sunset/disco themed wedding wasn’t going to make it into this list. The bride promised us it was “as perfect on the inside as it was on the outside!” With four tiers and four incred flavour combos (gin & tonic, malted vanilla, caramel espresso and chocolate raspberry) we 100% agree. Their whole day was equally fab with disco balls, streamers and confetti cannons making a fair few appearances. HM faves Cloud Catcher Studio were on hand to capture it all so if you haven’t already, pop on over this way for the full shebang.

ANDY BOWDY PASTRY, NSW
Jess & Dan’s theme for their Sydney wedding was low-key…for everything but their cake. They opted for one of Andy Bowdy’s signature OTT cakes that guests enjoyed post-reception on the rooftop of The Old Clare. Damien Milan, being the talented lad he is, captured a whole bunch of rad moments, all of which you can catch here. If you’re keen on his photographic talent, you can catch more Damien Milan goodness here.
