Take it from Taylor and Declan – “Don’t lose sleep stressing about the weather, and always have a contingency plan.” You see, you’d never guess it by looking at their colourful summer wedding album (by Kyra Boyer Photography, btw), but just 40 minutes before the duo were due to say ‘I do’, a HUGE hail storm made a surprise appearance, setting off a “scramble” to get all the elements of their outdoor ceremony undercover. “Because of the severity of the hail and wind, everything still got soaked,” the newlyweds explain, “but after the 10-minute storm, the sun came back out and you never would have known. It was beautiful and we still had the wedding of our dreams outside at Euroa Butter Factory!”

Ooooft what a roller coaster! Aside from Mother Nature’s cheeky shenanigans, Taylor and Declan’s day featured our mates Melbourne Entertainment Company in charge of tunes, an Irish dance-off, and Louie (the pair’s pooch) dressed in a tux. Scroll on, babes, it’s rainin’ love (and inspo) below…

THE VIBE “We both love a fun retro vibe – and knew we wanted lots of colour.”

FAVE DETAILS “We loved all of our little odes to our ring boy (our beloved Frenchie, Louie). We had custom Louie coasters on the tables. We also had a ‘Louie’s recommendation’ on both the ceremony bar menu and the reception bar menu. We also just loved having him as part of our day—in his little tuxedo.”

DIY “Since Declan is a graphic/digital designer by trade, he did all the stationery and [we] managed the printing ourselves. Whilst it was Dec who was on the tools, he was definitely heavily art directed by me – don’t think he would have come up with the pink and red colour palette without encouragement!!”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “Dec’s speech. Without doubt. He had me, and everyone else, absolutely sobbing. I was initially intending to make a speech, but after how emotional I had been in the lead up to the day and the day of, I knew I didn’t have a hope of getting a coherent word out. So Dec really came through! Dec and I also made a point of making sure we didn’t lose track of each other during the course of the night, which you hear happens to so many couples. Thankfully, Dec and I had a lot of time together, dancing, drinking and just soaking it all in, which was really special. We also surprised everyone with an Irish dance-off between Dec, his dad (an Irish man, known to pull out the jig after a few beers), and one of our gorgeous bridesmaids (Brittany—a former National champion Irish dancer, who also placed top 15 in the world). It was a close call, but I ultimately named Dec’s dad the winner and invited everyone onto the dance floor to kick things off.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Don’t lose sleep stressing about the weather and always have a contingency plan. The reason we booked the venue we did was because, not only did it have stunning outdoor facilities, but Euroa Butter Factory also had gorgeous indoor locations for us to use if we needed. Obviously, we ended up extremely lucky with the weather (aside from the hailstorm) and managed to keep everything outdoors. But truth be told, Dec and I could have gotten married in a public bathroom, and I can 100% confirm it still would have been one of the best days of our lives. I can confirm (provided you have a solid contingency plan) what will be, will be and it really won’t matter once you walk down that aisle.”
