When a florist and a sign-writer get together, you know their big day is going to be a good one. After 8 years, Shannon and Michael decided it was time to tie the knot with one epic love fest and a pretty sensational white on white palette, complete with textures and layers galore. We particularly adore Shanon’s all-white bride tribe, courtesy of the good folk at Shona Joy. Now, without further ado, scroll down for those sweet details and a handful of super snaps by HM fave Alexis of Goldlight Photography….
THE VENUE “We had always loved the vibe of the Star of Greece and longly said we would marry there one day. We didn’t even consider or discuss other venues. You can’t go past the location, the ocean views and the seriously incredible food. It felt like it encapsulated everything we wanted the day to be about. They host only a small number of weddings each year which we personally found appealing.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Ah, how do you pick!!? Sunshine filled seaside I do’s, sweetest of ice cream, golden tunes, heavenly blooms, endless champagne, delicious food, an abundance of love, smiles, tears and dancing beneath the stars!!”
DIY… “Yes and maybe foolishly. Think late nights spent hand painting names on capiz shell placards, loop folding cheesecloth napkins and melting candles into glass cylinders. We designed and manufactured all of the invitations, menus and signage. I was that bride that drew up floor plans and tablescapes to be executed on the day by my trusty florist, OTDC and venue manager. But this worked perfectly for us because we had a clear vision of what we wanted and we were able to make it happen.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Budgets are important but they aren’t the be-all and end-all. If it is a large part of your planning, over budget so you can be prepared for when things do blow out. Also, keep a small amount aside for all the little things you didn’t initially account for. What worked best for us was determining the things we valued most and investing in those. For example for us, it was the photographer, venue, music, food but we didn’t care for cars, cake or couture.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Alexis of Goldlight photography is an incredibly talented photographer and beautiful soul. The images she captured left us truly speechless with frame after frame utter magic. We can forever relive special moments through her extraordinary storytelling abilities. Alexis’s heart of gold and warmth, professionalism, artistic ability and attention to detail are beyond words. I used to work with Jess of Poppy and Vine and I instantly knew I wanted her as our florist and that I could trust her with my vision. Boy did she deliver! The dreamy, divine and ethereal floral creations were something else, awe-inspiring, romantic and everything I had envisioned. Jess is not only beautiful and kind but extremely humble and went above and beyond in every sense of the words.”
