Selin and Scott’s special day was comicbook-core made classy. Dark, moody, and a little gothic, the vibe was inspired by the pair’s love origin story and shared fondness for DC comics – how cool!?
As a professional graphic designer for iconic Aussie brand Camilla, Selin showed off her skills by DIY-ing the stationery. Fitting with the day’s theme, there was plenty of heroism to be seen, like a little firefighting from the best man (more on that below) and some stellar snapping by super-photographer Zoë Morley. FAVE DETAILS “I loved creating the invitations because it was in my complete control and tied into the theme. I hand-painted the hero image with watercolour. Then my dream was to create a stationery suite of all black with white ink. It was timeless and elegant. Being a graphic designer and artist, really allowed me to turn the process into a passion project. The floral work was also impeccable as each styling/floral work reflected each DC Comic character e.g. Batman table, Catwoman table, Harley Quinn table and so forth.”
THE INSPO “Scott and I met through my work, which was in the pop culture retail business. We had a love for DC Comics and Batman. I wanted to tie that into it but in a tasteful way tied with my love for dark, moody and gothic vibe. That’s when the stylist came through with her fantastic ideas!“
THE DRESS “My dress was a custom piece from Lillian Khallouf. It is what inspired me to go with a winter wedding as I wanted a long-sleeved high-neck dress but I didn’t want to be completely covered. I tried on a large princess dress, but it was not for me, I knew that I most certainly liked a silk flowy dress. It was a wonderful experience – I had never had a custom dress to fit my body, and it took roughly six months from start to end.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “The first look. It was a truly emotional and happy moment that was shared between Scott and I. We cried, we laughed and were so happy. It was so cold outside where we were taking photos but I could not feel a thing due to adrenaline.”
TALK ABOUT TRADITION “Scott’s grandmother passed away seven months prior to the big day, which was tough. I purchased a pin with her image in it from Etsy, and I gifted it to him in an envelope, which he opened privately. He said it was one of the most meaningful gifts anyone has given to him. He wore it in his suit throughout the day and keeps it in his wallet today.”
LITTLE LOL “I didn’t see this, but apparently, one of the flowers caught fire! The best man was around and splashed the whole lemonade jug onto it. He came back saying, ‘I just saved everyone’s lives, I’m a hero’ Haha.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “[Booked] the photo booth! Scott was hesitant, but I got my way and after he said, ‘That was the best idea you’ve ever had!’.”
