After being best mates for 15 years and a couple for six, Zee proposed to Sal on the doorstep of her best friends home with a stunning unset tourmaline gem. “We went straight to the Kallure studio together that afternoon and designed the ring together”, Sal reminisces happily. Just over a year later the relaxed couple tied the knot. Sally was driven by her belief that “marriage means the husband always drives” whilst Zee was looking forward to never being judged on his socks and slides. Just for good measure, the duo also promised to love and accept each other come what may. The wonderful Madeline Kate was on hand to capture each and every detail of these retro nuptials, so, do be sure to scroll down…
THE VENUE “We chose the Adelaide Bowling Club for a few reasons. First up, it had sentimental meaning for us, having both spent many hungover afternoons at their Sunday Superbowlz recovery sessions when we were younger. We’d looked at a couple of wineries and they just didn’t feel like ‘us’. We really wanted the wedding to be relaxed, unique and fun and thought that lawn bowls really fit that bill. It also fit our ‘Palm Springs/70’s’ theme perfectly with an amazing original mid-century clubhouse and gorgeous palm trees.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Our favourite details from the day would have to be the incredible cake by Cake Dealer. Not only did it look amazing and fit the theme perfectly, but it was also delicious. One guest ate 14 pieces!”
FAVOURITE MOMENT “Obviously the whole day was brilliant but our favourite memory is standing out on the bowling green with Maddie (our photographer) for sunset photos whilst looking back at all of our nearest and dearest all in one place, bowling, dancing and laughing. It was such a precious, quiet moment together.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “My advice for other couples planning a wedding would be to decide first of all what you want the day to be about and go from there. We wanted unique, relaxed and fun, so all of our choices flowed from that. I think this makes it easier to prioritise what you want to spend time and money on. Also, try to let go of what you can’t control. The week leading up to our wedding was the hottest on record in Adelaide but the weather on the day ended up being absolutely perfect!”
WE’RE GLAD WE “We are really glad we chose a Friday afternoon. Everyone loved the extra recovery time! We are also glad we chose a cocktail reception as it went with our relaxed vibe. We also had a midnight pizza delivery which was a huge hit with everyone after hours of drinking and dancing!”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Maddie, our photographer, was an absolute superstar! We became friends as soon as we met. Not only is she incredibly talented but she is also just so warm, lovable and hilarious! She scouted amazing locations for us and we wanted more candid shots than posed, which she definitely delivered. Out of all the wedding vendors you will spend the most time with the photographer, so it is important to find someone that ‘fits’ your day and Maddie did that perfectly.”
