Sometimes it’s the simplest proposals that really tug at the heartstrings. For this couple of seven years, it was a favourite song on the record player and Tom dropping the knee. “Very casual and nonchalant,” he says. We couldn’t love this more.
With a New Year’s Eve wedding in mind and just nine months to pull it all together, Sally and Tom wasted no time locking in their dream team and curating a day that was effortlessly cool, fun, and full of love. From a not-so-traditional Rachel Gilbert mini dress, to dance floor cameos by enthusiastic guests, this wedding was packed with personality.
Scroll on for all the goodness, plus some stellar snaps by the ever-talented Brontë McVeigh.
THE VENUE
“We didn’t really have time on our side when it came to securing a venue, with NYE obviously being a busy time of year. We had a pretty open mind on options looking for somewhere that was casual and accessible to our guests – Sunshine Beach Surf Club is always a vibe, so why not get married there!”
THE DRESS
“I knew I wanted a short dress and nothing too traditional. I had seen my Rachel Gilbert dress online and thought it was just such an awesome dress for something special (not necessarily the wedding). It was sold out but I signed up for a restock notification to entertain the idea that one day I could own something so cool. Between a busy day of appointments and meetings I checked my phone to see it had been restocked and I ordered it right then before thinking. The dress arrived and while it was incredible, it was the wrong size so I sadly had to return it. The dress occupied my mind for a while so I went on the hunt and found it in a boutique in Sydney who were so lovely and excited for me to have found it.”
FAVE DETAILS
“We were blessed with awesome weather which was great for the outdoor wedding on the lawn with the beach in the background. Since it was a cocktail wedding and without many additional formalities, we decided to ensure our band was epic to heat up the dance floor. We got Hamilton Band and they were awesome. A lot of our friends and family took turns on the mic throughout the night too (they are absolutely not professional singers but Hamilton Band were great about it).”
WE’RE GLAD WE…
“Had disposable cameras around for the night, capturing the POV of our guests. And having our speeches recorded so we can re-live those special moments.”
STANDOUT VENDOR
“Brontë McVeigh, our photographer (and her husband Jake), and makeup artist Josie from Beauty in The Woods were so great. Bronte’s ability to make us feel comfortable was awesome. Her deliverables were incredible also. We made great use of all of the pictures she took sending photos of our guests out in all of our thank you cards.”
