Making our winter wedding fantasies a reality, dried ferns and decadent cotton candy roses included, Rebekah and Todd tied the knot after four sweet years together. Complete with mobile bar, The Roaming Eagle, these two lovers pulled off one ultra cosy day. Our good friends Barefoot & Bearded and Goldbear Wedding Films were there to capture the bounty of spesh moments. Scroll down for the evidence…

THE VENUE “To be honest, we’ve always wanted a pub wedding! The venue [Abernethy House] was the second venue we went to see and we were completely sold as soon as we saw it. It was magic; the history, the colours, the never-ending guest rooms, the huge commercial kitchen, the beer garden and everything else was so much more than we could ever have imagined! We knew it was perfect for us because we didn’t want a formal sit-down style wedding, we pretty much just wanted a huge party, and with so many places for our guests to hang out and relax, we were absolutely stoked with this venue. Also, if it rained, we could have just opened up the top section of the pub where there is another deck area and there would have been plenty of room.”

THE VIBE “I think the vibe came from our love of winter and antiques. We had been looking at some pictures of gorgeous old English pubs decked out in bunting with old school decorations finished off with just a few candles, blankets and open fires. We thought that the venue was so beautiful on its own that a bit of lighting and some hired furniture was all it pretty much needed. We had just got back from a winter UK trip and so we pulled some inspiration from all of the dimly-lit, speak-easy style pubs and bars we spent many nights in!”

THE DRESSAtelier Rose Bridal was the first and only bridal store I visited! I always knew that I wasn’t likely to find my dress on the rack, but I also thought it would cost an arm and leg to design and have one made. However, the ladies in store reassured me that wasn’t the case and that they do that kind of thing all the time, and so we set out on a design. I purchased a skirt and so we just needed to create the top part of the dress. My main concern was being conformable on the day. I really didn’t want to feel restricted or like I couldn’t eat or drink anything all night! I’ve always wanted long sleeves and I love simple designs, so I didn’t go for any lace or complex lines. By only the second or third fitting, we had found the perfect design and I was so in love with my dress. Totally the dress of my dreams!”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “[Todd] When the three flower girls walked down the aisle, we told them that I would have a surprise waiting for them! This was to make sure they would actually walk down the isle instead of running off and playing in the dirt. Needless to say, they did exactly what was asked of them and in return, they were given a lollipop! I decided to reward my future father in law with the same reward after walking Bek down the aisle, and whipped out a Coca Cola Chupa Chup for him too!”

LITTLE LOL “[Todd] As the night progressed and more and more people were letting their hair down and really starting to get their groove on, one of my mates thought it would be a fantastic idea to start doing the rounds, offering ‘shoeyes’ to all. Most guests obliged, but the one that stood out was when my father-in-law was confronted with the decision midway through a serious conversation to either portray the ‘smart, professional medical professor’ that he is, or drink champagne out of my mate’s shoe; stoked to say he chose the latter!”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer, Barefoot and Bearded, and videographer (Goldbear) were so chilled and laid back that it totally made the whole experience more like a fun photoshoot rather than what can be a really nerve-wracking day! We had the best time with them and their work is incredible. Our food, drinks, florals and DJ all played their part in making this such an epic day too. We Play Records fit in so well with their vintage vibes and I’m still getting compliments on how good their tunes were. We even begged them for an encore at the end of the night they were that good! Kayla from The Roaming Eagle is seriously incredible. Her bar, staff, hire items and just her, in general, were such a pleasure to work with. She reassured us every step of the way and her bar is just gorgeous. We especially love her for our amazing pre-ceremony strawberry & basil Amaretto sours and our late night Hot Toddy’s!”
