From around the globe, loved ones gathered in Sydney to celebrate Ashu and Puja, who have been each other’s sweetheart since 16. Hosted over multiple days, it was as heartwarming as they come and, as Puja recalls, memories were being made well before the party officially kicked off. “Our home became a full blown wedding hub in the lead-up. Between late night DIY projects, decorating the house, endless dance practices, Diwali celebrations the week before, and extended family all under one roof, there was never a dull moment. What began as joyful chaos soon became one of our most cherished memories – a home overflowing with warmth, laughter, and the kind of love that makes the walls feel alive.”
As you might imagine, multiple days = multiple outfits, each a masterpiece. Ashu’s wedding week wardrobe featured both Nepali and western ‘fits (including finishing touches courtesy of our friends at Cambridge Clothing). While the intricate, exquisite details of Puja’s ensembles will have you poring over these pics for hours. Not to mention the wedding party! Puja’s bridesmaids actually re-wore outfits from a prior wedding for a sustainable twist – genius!
‘Joyful’ isn’t enough to describe this one. It’s simply EUPHORIC, and captured so magically by Daisy and Pine photography.
A BLEND OF NEPALI & AUSSIE WEDDING ENERGY
“We’re both Nepalese with strong ties to our community, culture, and religion. At the same time, we grew up in Australia (school, uni, and plenty of rom-coms) so Western influences are part of who we are. Our wedding was about blending those worlds together, honouring our Nepalese heritage, celebrations, family focus, and spiritual traditions while weaving in the relaxed elegance and fun of a modern celebration.”
GARDEN WEDDING VENUE SYDNEY
“We had always envisioned a garden wedding in a secluded, timeless spot, while staying in Sydney to make travel easy for our elders. Vaucluse Estate House ticked all our boxes with its graceful historic architecture, beautiful gardens with both sun and shade options, and easy access for family and friends. The estate has a tranquil energy we loved, with birds chirping and the gentle sound of water along the river way; it felt worlds away, yet perfectly close to home.”
THE WEDDING DRESS
My wedding dress was designed and handcrafted by Pitambara by Manisha. I had a clear vision in mind (deep crimson lehenga, rich with intricate handwork and delicate embellishment). When I came across Manisha’s designs, I instantly felt a connection. Her craftsmanship, attention to detail, and artistry were exceptional, and her warmth made the entire process easy. Over several months, we worked closely together, communicating through WhatsApp exchanging sketches, fabric swatches etc. She sent progress videos as the dress slowly came to life. Seeing it evolve from an idea to a tangible piece was such a meaningful experience, and the final creation was more than I had envisioned.
THE GROOM’S CULTURALLY-INSPIRED YET MODERN WEDDING ‘FIT
Ashu wanted his look for the wedding to honour Nepali tradition while feeling fresh and modern. At first, we were unsure about the direction, torn between the boldness of colour and different designs. Eventually, Ashu gravitated toward a classic daura suruwal inspired silhouette traditional for Nepali grooms in a modern ivory tone, which struck the perfect balance between culture and modernity. We worked with Manish Rai, a celebrated Nepali designer known for redefining traditional menswear. The process was a true family effort with Ashu’s sister, Brishty, flying to Nepal to finalise the outfit, and intricate hand-finished details, everything came together really well. The end result was a refined ensemble that felt deeply personal, a reflection of our Nepali heritage and his sense of style.
A STANDOUT VIDEO & PHOTO TEAM
Caro (Daisy and Pine) and Sam (Sam Battin Films) were our absolute standouts. They spent the most time with us through the wedding events. Beyond their talent and artistry, they also have incredible energy. They have this effortless way of making everyone feel at ease, setting the tone and energy throughout the day. It felt less like working with vendors and more like sharing the experience with friends who just happened to be exceptionally good at what they do.
