Add a seriously stunning gown, veil by one of our fave accessories labels, Amélie George, entertainment by none other than The White Tree and pics by the incredible Alex Jack Photography and you’ve got a killer wedding right here. THE VENUE “Our first venue, we loved and booked straight away. A few months later, we got a call saying they had had to sell because of COVID! We booked with another venue – it was very stressful and really put into perspective what we wanted from the day – so we decided that something more intimate and low-key would be more our style. The Edwards in Newcastle ended up being exactly what we were after. We had aways loved the idea of getting married in a non-conventional venue. The space was more suited to the amount of people, and having it in a bar was something a bit different. They also had way more availability so we brought our date forward by four months and never looked back!”

FAVE DETAILS “We tried to put in as many personal touches to the day as we could. My cousin designed the invitations, Nick’s mum hand made all the napkins from recycled kimono fabric (she is Japanese) and also made all the paper cranes for the tables. The flowers by Botanica Bird were out of this world amazing. They were more like sculptures than floral arrangements that filled the space with the most amazing fragrance.”

THE DRESS “I went to lots of different boutiques all over Sydney trying to find my dress, but none were really ‘me’ or my style. I felt that all the dresses were made for girls with either a super slim figure or an hourglass (not much out there for the pear girls). I even made enquiries to get something made before I went into Made with Love and tried on the Lucy dress. It was the perfect style for me. Comfortable, simple but still with a bridal feel.”

REFERENCES “I knew Alex Jack Photography as she went to school with my brother and followed her on Instagram long before we got engaged. I found our band, The White Tree through reading about them in Hello May.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “My Dad’s speech was definitely a memorable moment. He made life-sized mannequins out of wetsuits stuffed with pillows to enact a fictitious skit about how we met. It was hilarious but also terrifying. He got a standing ovation. The dress ups on the dance floor were also a hilarious addition, though very typical of my family.”

LITTLE LOL “I thought I was so organised having worn in my shoes for months leading up to the day. It wasn’t until the photographer wanted to get a detailed show of me putting on my shoes that we realised that one of the ankle straps was missing! I rang the groomsmen and asked them to look at our accomodation, they turned everything upside down trying to find it but with no success. Luckily my sister had a spare pair of heels that fit me. They were black rather than nude like I had been intending to wear but I think I liked that better anyway!”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “We are really glad we had a smaller number. It was all our favourite people and made it so special. We are also SO GLAD we got a videographer. It was the last thing we booked and Sophie (of White Maple) did a spectacular job capturing the vibe of the wedding perfectly. We will treasure the video for ever. We are also glad we had our ceremony and reception at the one place. It meant we could have an ‘open invitation’ to extended family to join us for the ceremony and then our smaller guest list for the reception could move into to the restaurant area later on.”

STANDOUT VENDORSAlex Jack Photography is an absolute pro. We had no idea what we were doing and she made us feel so comfortable. She planned the timings for us, scouted locations all around town and changed her date twice to fit in with us. The photos are also amazing and I cannot believe how special they are. Our celebrant Wed By Steph was also amazing. And The White Tree band were also the best, best, best! The vibe on the dance floor was amazing thanks to them.”
