You’re in for a treat, lovers. Today we throwback to Lucy and Julian’s intimate, coastal, very-quickly-coordinated nuptials, originally seen in issue 40.
When Julian was offered a job in New York, he and Lucy eagerly jumped at the opportunity to embark on an exciting new adventure, even deciding to get hitched before the big move. But they’d have to be quick. Their fast-approaching departure date left them only six weeks to say ‘I do’!
They didn’t have to look far to find the ideal location for their intimate elopement. Coningham Beach, Hobart, just a few hundred metres from home, was the perfect spot. “It’s so magical and has a special place in our hearts.” The pair report that word of mouth was key to finding their dream team, with their celebrant, Merren Wilkinson (Cinta Celebrate Love), being the one to recommend their photographer, Jess Oakenfull. “We loved Jess’s candid approach and ability to capture the in-between moments without us being aware of her presence.”
On the big day, they, with their four guests, had the beach to themselves. They made it official encircled by flowers with natural ocean tones soundtracking the moment, both sporting amazing outfits that they’d only found days before (!!) More on that, and other magical bits, below…
A Post-Wedding Proposal with a Custom Engagement Ring
“Our experience was fairly unconventional and a bit backward, as we decided to get married before there was an opportunity for Julian to officially propose. During that time, Julian had secretly been working with Bella Clark on a custom engagement ring and was hoping he could propose before the wedding, but the timeframe was too tight, so he surprised me a week after on our favourite cliff face by our house, looking out across North West Bay.”
SPEED WEDDING SUIT SHOPPING
“Julian ordered what he thought would be a cool, oversized boxy suit online that didn’t end up looking so flattering and was giving David Byrne’s ‘Big Suit’ energy. So he resorted to a rushed shop in Hobart a few days out from the wedding.”
INCREDIBLE WEDDING FLOWERS & DETAILS
“Eliza at This Natural World created the most incredible flower ring for our ceremony, which looked stunning in the beach setting. We also gave film cameras to our parents to help document the day in a more candid fashion.”
Last-Minute Bridal Style: Trying On the Wedding Dress the Day Before
“Finding a dress was really challenging! We flew to Melbourne for a weekend specifically to find outfits but neither of us had any luck. . . Next, we resorted to buying things online, which was really nerve-wracking because we had little room for error as our wedding was in less than two weeks. My first vision included powder blue tights, a short white dress and light blue bows for my hair. However, when putting it all together, I felt like I was 16 again (not in a good way). So a few days before, I looked (again) at Melbourne-based designers and fortunately found a dress by Arnsdorf. My mum (who lives in Melbourne) bought the dress and flew it down with her when she and my dad arrived the day before the wedding. I fell in love when I tried it on in their hotel room! It was perfect.”
THE WEDDING RING BLESSING
“The ring blessing was extremely significant, as it gave our parents an opportunity to hold our rings and share their thoughts on our love and give us well wishes for our future together.”
DREAM TASSIE WEDDING TEAM
“All three vendors were incredible and a dream to collaborate with! Eliza did an amazing job at arranging the flowers and made the process fun and collaborative. She went above and beyond by extending what we had provided her and elevated the final selection used on our day. Jess, our photographer, was perfect for what we felt comfortable with. We loved her candid approach and ability to capture the in-between moments without us being aware of her presence. Our celebrant, Merren’s down-to-earth energy was just what we needed leading up to the wedding and during the ceremony. She made you feel like your day was the most special day she’s ever been a part of!”
