Sometimes, when it comes to planning a wedding, sitting down with your partner and discussing the ‘non-negotiables’ is the best place to start. In the case of Lucy and Joel, “good food, live music and our pug (Bodhi) to be there,” was at the forefront of the groom’s mind! For Lucy, it was important they find a venue that already had a sense of atmosphere without needing too much sprucing.
The duo set their sights on The Edwards, a unique bar venue in Newcastle, NSW. Lucy added that to get the wedding of their dreams, a little compromising took place, “at the time they had never taken wedding bookings, we pitched the idea to the general manager who jumped at the idea only condition it had to be a Monday. Worked for us, Monday’s are a little unconventional?but so are we!”
Whilst her dress hunting wasn’t quite the experience she had hoped for, Lucy’s talented cousin, Amalia Pearl created the perfect dress for the occasion, the bride adding, “it was all the features I wanted. Every detail is unique, the lace along the hem and neck line, the low cut back, the hand made buttons…”
With Justin Aaron Weddings behind the lens, and La Lune Cinema there to capture the day in full; Lucy and Joel explain that the pressure of the day was relieved with the help of their stylist, Helena Portia; meaning they could focus on those intimate moments. With most traditions thrown out the window, the pair say their favourite parts of the day were spending the morning getting ready together, and for Joel – “the beef and the chicken wings; and he and I dancing to the band’s version of R Kelly’s ‘Ignition’,” well, we certainly can’t argue with that!
